MARCA DO BRASILEIRÃO

Reporter reveals Leeds stars set for new deals in 49ers spending spree

With things on the pitch at an all-time high at Leeds United, the 49ers Group have started planning for new deals for some of their star players.

Leeds United in flying form under Farke

Life in the Championship was never going to be easy for Leeds United. However, they have now put a shaky start behind them and look set to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. A resounding 4-0 win over Swansea City in midweek put The Whites back in the automatic promotion places before a 2-0 victory this weekend gave them a two-point cushion over the chasing pack.

Daniel Farke's men have racked up eight consecutive wins, keeping a clean sheet in all but one of these fixtures and looking like the most resolute side in the division. Leeds' surge up the table has been fueled by success on the goal scoring front too however, netting almost twice per game this season.

This Leeds academy "goal machine" could be Bamford's successor

Daniel Farke will have to work his magic on the talented young centre-forward.

ByDan Emery Feb 16, 2024

Crysencio Summerville's fifteen goals this season is the fourth highest in the division, whilst Joel Piroe, Dan James and Georginio Rutter have also chipped in to help the scoring tally.

It is these superb individual seasons that have left owners, the 49ers Group, ready to spend big on new deals for some of their top talents.

49ers readying big-money deals for their stars

As first reported by Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke on Saturday, the 49ers are prepared to open the chequebook and offer fresh contracts to a number of important players. O'Rourke states that the Leeds board will open negotiations with "several key men" naming Patrick Bamford, Illan Meslier, Crysencio Summerville and Dan James who are all out of contract in June 2026.

Patrick Bamford

The inclusion of Summerville will be a cause for celebration for Leeds fans, with the winger linked to a host of clubs in January and Premier League clubs likely to come sniffing again in the summer. A topflight talent who has made the Championship his playground, there is no wonder why Summerville is on the radar of some of Europe's elite clubs.

The 49ers are also looking to work out a deal to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent deal. The Welshman joined on loan from Spurs this summer and his parent club are looking for between £10million and £15million to make his stay in West Yorkshire indefinite. Turning out thirty times this season, it is an obvious move to try and strike a deal to keep the defender at Elland Road.

rutter-summerville-leeds-opinion

Also on the negotiating table will be a fresh deal for manager Daniel Farke. The German has been instrumental in changing Leeds' fortunes this season and making them firm favourites for promotion. The 47-year-old's tenure at Elland Road has seen him boast a win percentage of 63% and pick up an impressive two points per game. Regardless of which league they play their football in next season, Leeds are ensuring that some of their most important assets are a part of it.

Arsenal’s £75k-p/w outcast may not play for the club again after West Ham

Arsenal have now been Premier League title challengers for the last two seasons thanks to the management of Mikel Arteta. The Gunners have been in stellar form and seem to have found the correct tactical style that works for them.

Granted, this is largely due to the north London clubs persistence with Arteta following a couple of finishes outside of the top four during his tenure where many thought that the Spaniard would be relieved of his duties.

Despite this, Stan Kroenke decided to stick it out with the Arsenal playing legend and, thus far, it has seemingly worked out. However, Arteta has yet to pip either Manchester City or Liverpool to the title.

The 2022/23 season was where they came closest to doing so, but they narrowly missed out on winning the title by just five points. This season has been no different as the Gunners are still challenging for the title.

They currently find themselves in third place, just two points off of the top spot. Their performances this season have been something of a mixed bag, with the side losing to the likes of Fulham but then prevailing over fellow title rivals, Liverpool.

The signing of Declan Rice has been inspired, with the former Hammer scoring and assisting twice against his former employers in that 6-0 romp on Sunday.

It was a particularly happy day for everyone associated with Arsenal, particularly their fringe players who got a rare chance to show what they were capable of. Chief in question were Mohamed Elneny and Cedric.

How Cedric played against West Ham

The defender came on in the 77th minute and had a cameo appearance which lasted a total of 13 minutes, as per Sofascore.

During that time, it was the right-back's chance to show Arteta what he had been missing out on all season and gave him his first chance of game time all season in league. Which, for a player who is reportedly on £75k-per-week, is not what you want to hear.

However, with the time he had, Cedric did little to nothing as the game petered out. As per Sofascore, the Portugal international made zero clearances, interceptions, tackles or blocked any shots throughout the entirety of his appearance. That's hardly a surprise when you consider what the Irons had to offer though.

In fact, the only positive from his performance was that 89% of the nine passes he attempted were accurate. This cameo will have been far from how Cedric would've wished it to have panned out, but, what's done is done, and he has just shown Arteta that he has been right to exclude him from making any further first-team appearances.

Why Cedric could never play for Arsenal again

The Gunners are currently on an unbeaten run of five games and are showing no signs of slowing down. In their most recent clash against West Ham, the London-based club managed to slot six past the Hammers in what was one of their best showings of the season.

Since arriving at the club, the Portugal international in Cedric has played a total of 62 games in all competitions, but only seven of those have come in the last two seasons.

Although these numbers make it seem like he's been something of a regular fixture in the squad, his involvement over the last couple of seasons has been minimal to say the least.

So much so that last season the 32-year-old was shipped out to Fulham on loan and, even then, he only played a total of eight times for the Cottagers.

As per Transfermarkt, the right-back's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and, with his distinct lack of game time this season – featuring for just 13 minutes in the league – it would be a surprise if firstly, we saw him again this season, and secondly we didn't see the defender pulling on the shirt of another club during the 2024/25 campaign.

Chris Green, Imran Tahir shine as Guyana Amazon Warriors qualify for playoffs

The Warriors spinners combined for figures of 7 for 46 as they kept their perfect season rolling with a 12-run win (DLS method) against Barbados Tridents

The Report by Varun Shetty23-Sep-2019
Guyana Amazon Warriors sealed a spot in the 2019 CPL playoffs with a 12-run win (DLS method) in a rain-truncated chase against Barbados Tridents. Their win was built on yet another impressive performance from their bowlers, particularly their spinners. Chris Green took a career-best 4 for 14, and Imran Tahir and Shoaib Malik took three between them as the spinners combined for figures of 11.3-0-46-7 to dismiss Tridents for 138. Tridents’ spinners couldn’t come into play as effectively, as Brandon King’s unbeaten fifty led the way in a chase that was stopped after 11 overs by rain with Amazon Warriors comfortably ahead of the par score. They now have 12 points in six matches, while Tridents stay in fourth place with four points in five games.A cracking start with the batAfter being put in, Tridents were served several short and wide balls by Keemo Paul in the first over, with a free hit also thrown in. They made 17 off that over, but Johnson Charles fell, slicing a cut to third man.Alex Hales, returning from the Vitality Blast, found his timing and played smart shots – flicks over square leg and one imperious cut through the covers. JP Duminy, caught in a rut last match, came out attacking too, picking up 14 off three in one sequence. Once again, it was Paul at the receiving end, with his second over going for 18. Tridents were 63 for 2 after the Powerplay.Spinners turn the gameThe very first ball after the Powerplay, Hales crunched a slog sweep off Tahir, but couldn’t get enough elevation on it. He picked out Shimron Hetmyer at deep midwicket. Tahir made it a double-wicket over off the last ball, screeching desperately as Jonathan Carter was struck on the front pad. After long consideration, the umpire nodded his head and raised his finger. Carter wasn’t pleased, but replays showed the legbreak had turned enough to hit him in line.Jason Holder then struggled during his short stay, being beaten twice on the inside edge by Malik and Tahir, before chipping one to long-on off Malik. Amazon Warriors had used spin to apply a squeeze in their last match as well, with Malik playing the fourth spinner’s role. On Sunday, he bowled four overs for ten runs. With the middle order crashing rapidly, Green was back to bowl in the final stages of the innings and had Ashley Nurse stumped, Duminy caught at deep square leg, and closed the innings with wickets off consecutive deliveries.A no-fuss chaseChandrapaul Hemraj struggled for rhythm but did just enough to put up yet another formidable opening stand with King. They put on 61 in seven overs before Hemraj chipped one back off Sandeep Lamichhane. He had hit one handsome shot, a back-foot punch over extra cover for six previously, but fell for 20 off 23.Hetmyer was out top-edging Duminy next over, but King had done enough to keep the pressure at bay. He hit three sixes, one running down the track and two rooted to the crease to lift over the leg side, and hit back-to-back boundaries square on either side just before rain stopped play. By that time, he was on 49 off 30 with Malik at the other end. The DLS par score was 61 for 2, and Amazon Warriors were 16 ahead. When play resumed an hour and 15 minutes later, the revised target was 97 – 20 to win off four overs – and King brought up his fifty in the only over bowled before rain returned.

Hamilton Masakadza bids farewell with match-winning 71

The Zimbabwe captain’s 42-ball knock powered his side to their first-ever T20I victory over Afghanistan

The Report by Liam Brickhill20-Sep-2019

Hamilton Masakadza walks out to a guard of honour in his final match in Zimbabwe colours•Raton Gomes/BCB

Hamilton Masakadza signed off an acclaimed international career in style, in Chattogram, leading Zimbabwe’s 156 chase with 71 to snap Afghanistan’s world-record winning streak in T20Is at 12. His 42-ball knock also helped secure his country’s first-ever victory over these opponents in the shortest format. Zimbabwe weathered a bruising opening stand between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai, Chris Mpofu snaffling a T20I career-best 4 for 30 as Afghanistan were restricted to 155 for 8. Masakadza then led Zimbabwe’s charge with the bat one last time, swatting five characteristically muscular sixes in his match-winning innings that set up a seven-wicket win.Afghanistan openers make merryRahmanullah Gurbaz fiddled his way through five dot balls in the first over of the innings, from left-arm spinner Ainsley Ndlovu, but he and Hazratullah Zazai quickly made up for the sluggish start thereafter. By the time the Powerplay was up, Zazai had gone some way towards making amends for his mediocre returns in this tri-series, Gurbaz had spanked three sixes, and Afghanistan had raced to 55 at a canter.A withering blow to the midsection via a Kyle Jarvis indipper took the wind out of Zazai but, after a few deep breaths, the batsman barely slowed the momentum as he shook the stinger off with a six off Sean Williams’ left-arm spin. Gurbaz motored into the 40s with 10 runs off two Ryan Burl long hops, and was then gifted a second life when Regis Chakabva spilled a high – but regulation – chance in the outfield.Zazai was eventually dismissed for 31 as the opening stand was snapped at 83, but Gurbaz and Shafiqullah continued to make merry. Shafiqullah biffed a Tino Mutombodzi legbreak over long -ff to bring up the hundred, while Gurbaz notched up a maiden T20I fifty from 40 balls, in the 13th over. Afghanistan appeared primed to launch a blistering attack in the second half of the innings.Mpofu leads Zimbabwe’s fightbackZimbabwe, however, had other ideas and their fightback was spearheaded by veteran seamer Mpofu. He was Zimbabwe’s quickest bowler of the evening, topping out at around 136kmph, but he also varied his pace cleverly and was rewarded with a career-best T20I haul. Mpofu’s efforts raised the energy of those around him, and from 107 for 1, Afghanistan quickly lost their way, losing 7 for 48.Mpofu got things going by removing a slog-sweeping Shafiqullah with a slow offcutter, and then accounted for Mohammad Nabi in the next over. With Gurbaz bowled behind his legs sweeping at Williams and Najibullah Zadran slicing a Mutombodzi googly to short third man in quick succession, the stuffing was knocked out of Afghanistan’s middle order and their charge quickly lost momentum. Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan both cleared the boundary in their short cameos, but Mpofu struck twice in the final over of the innings to dismiss debutant Fazal Niazai and former captain Asghar Afghan to keep Afghanistan’s total in check.Once more unto the breach, ‘Mudhara’ Hami, once moreMore than eighteen years after he walked out onto the field for the first time as an international cricketer, Hamilton Masakadza strode out one last time as Zimbabwe began their chase. In a touching tribute, both teams lined up to give Masakadza a guard of honour on his final walk to the middle, and he signed off in style. It was Brendan Taylor who was first out of the blocks, sweeping and lofting Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s first two balls to the boundary, but it was Masakadza, wearing a special edition T-shirt with his nickname ‘Mudhara’ (chiShona for ‘old man’) printed on the back, who stole the show. Playing with a freedom that had been lacking from his game amid tumultuous times in Zimbabwean cricket of late, Masakadza showed his team just what they would be missing. His first boundary was perhaps his best, and certainly the cleanest strike on either side all evening. It was also a trademark Masakadza stroke, the Zimbabwe captain getting down on one knee to swat a full-pace delivery from Dawlat Zadran up and over deep backward square.Chakabva, shovelling virtually everything into the leg side no matter the line, proved the perfect foil, repeatedly handing the strike back over to his captain. At the other end, an unshackled Masakadza planted Nabi twice into the stands, racing past fifty from the 27th ball he faced. Rashid was drilled down the ground and then over deep midwicket. Masakadza entered the 70s with a farewell hundred very much a possibility, but it was not to be. Aiming once more for the stands, he was caught in the deep off Dawlat Zadran. But the job was as good as done. Shifting through the gears, Chakabva took the requirement to under a run a ball, and Williams saw Zimbabwe home. Masakadza was able to leave the international game with a smile on his face, and a landmark Zimbabwe win under his belt.

Wolves "keen" on summer swoop to sign "incredible" Pedro Neto successor

Pedro Neto has been one of the star performers for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this season with his electric performances down the flank, but it seems Fosun are planning for his probable departure at the end of the campaign.

Pedro Neto's stunning Premier League season

The former Braga speedster has racked up three goals and 11 assists in 22 appearances in all competitions so far, including one goal and two assists in four FA Cup outings. In the English top-flight, only Ollie Watkins, Pascal Gross, and Kieran Trippier (ten) have registered more assists than Neto (nine) so far this season.

Wolves winger Pedro Neto.

The 23-year-old winger, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, has assisted at least three more goals than any of his teammates in the Premier League, and leads the squad with 2.1 key passes per game. His finishing is an area that needs improvement, though, as the Portugal international has scored two goals from an Expected Goals of 3.2, which suggests that the young dynamo has been wasteful in front of goal at times.

Despite his slight underperformance as a finisher, Neto has provided consistent quality in the final third with 11 direct goal contributions in 17 Premier League starts.

The club are now reportedly eyeing up a move for a new forward who could arrive as their next version of the Spurs-linked dynamo ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Latest Wolves transfer news

The Express & Star's Liam Keen has revealed that Wolves are interested in a summer swoop to sign Braga forward Rodrigo Gomes to bolster their wide options. Gary O'Neil is "keen" on a deal for the winger, who can also play at full-back if needed, as the club are keeping tabs on his progress in Portugal this season.

The reporter, however, has confirmed that nothing is agreed at this moment in time. There is also no mention of how much it would cost to secure his services.

Rodrigo Gomes

His performances on loan with Estoril have caught the eye during the 2023/24 campaign. He has stepped up as a scorer and a creator of goals from the right wing, just like Neto has for the Old Gold. The 20-year-old only managed two goals and two assists in 51 first-team matches for Braga before being sent out on loan last summer, but has thrived since.

Neto has provided three more assists for Wolves but has created the same number of 'big chances' in the final third, which suggests that the only difference between them in that regard is the quality of their teammates when it comes to finishing those opportunities.

The 5 foot 9 maestro, who U23 scout Antonio Mango once hailed as "incredible" and a "diamond", has scored six goals and assisted seven in 27 outings in all competitions.

At the age of 20, Gomes also has plenty of time left to develop and improve. This means that O'Neil could work with him on the training pitch to unearth him as the club's next version of Neto.

Rangers and Clement now eyeing double deal for two in-demand talents

As things stand, Rangers are on course to lift the Scottish Premiership come the end of the season to put them in the best possible position to attract top talents in Philippe Clement's first summer in charge. And that could see them make an impressive double swoop.

Rangers transfer news

That said, the Gers are still set to lose several players at the end of the current campaign. Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic and Leon Balogun, just to name a few, are all out of contract this summer and are unlikely to put pen to paper on fresh deals as things stand. Those at Ibrox are at least attempting to secure the future of John Lundstram, however, with reports suggesting that his new contract has become a top priority.

John Lundstram for Rangers.

Those departures will free up space for Clement to once again make his mark in Scotland. Rangers fans got a small glimpse of his recruitment during the January transfer window when Oscar Cortes, Mohamed Diomande and Fabio Silva all arrived on loan, before enjoying success ever since. It's the type of transfer genius that the Gers could now repeat in the summer.

According to Graeme Bailey for HITC, Clement and Rangers are eyeing a double swoop for Leopold Querfeld and Matthias Seidl from Rapid Vienna, having watched both players in action this season. The Scottish giants aren't alone in their interest, however, with Crystal Palace, Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Old Firm rivals Celtic also eyeing moves for the duo.

Rangers now eyeing move to sign "outstanding" new star who could cost £0

This would be a genius coup for the Gers.

ByTom Cunningham Mar 7, 2024

Querfeld, a centre-back, and Seidl, an attacking midfielder, look set to have a crucial decision to make regarding their futures this summer. Rangers will hope that the lure of joining a side fresh from a title win and on the up will convince the Vienna duo to ignore the temptation of the Premier League.

"Austrian wall" Querfeld can replace Balogun

Querfeld, still just 20-years-old, has certainly attracted plenty of admirers in Austria and rightly so. The central defender is a ready-made replacement for Balogun, who is set to depart as a free agent this summer. It's a potential summer move that Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig will no doubt be keeping an eye on after facilitating Denis Cmier's analysis on the defender.

Alongside the young defender, meanwhile, is Seidl. The attacking midfielder has the chance to replace Jack at Ibrox in similar fashion to how his counterpart can step in to replace Balogun.

At 23-years-old, Seidl is on the verge of his best years and looks set to get the opportunity to complete a big move just one year after joining Rapid Vienna. When the summer transfer window swings open, he will certainly be one to watch alongside Querfeld, especially if Rangers step things up and make their move in the coming months.
