Tottenham: Spurs "Will Now Move" For "Prolific" Striker

Tottenham Hotspur are setting plans in motion to replace Harry Kane as journalist Pete O'Rourke shares news on their search for a striker.

Who will Spurs replace Kane with?

Ange Postecoglou will be eager to sign Kane's successor as quickly as possible, and with just over a fortnight of the window remaining, he is fast running out of time.

The 30-year-old's move to Bayern Munich brings a potential £103 million fee to Spurs, depending on if certain add-ons are met, and this comes as good business on paper given Kane was in the final year of his contract.

However, Kane's monumental haul of 30 league goals last term will be very difficult to replicate, and the loss of a record-breaking club legend is a bitter one to take for supporters.

Postecoglou knew the striker had made his mind up over leaving long ago, coming after conversations he had with the England international this summer.

“I had a conversation with Harry the first day he arrived and he was up front and honest, and I was the same,” the 57-year-old said before a 2-2 with Brentford on Sunday.

“You get an indication there that he kind of made up his mind: that if the clubs agreed he would go, particularly if it was before the first game. That was my preference as well.

“There's nothing along the way that's sort of made me feel there's anything other than this outcome."

It will be fascinating to see which strikers Tottenham turn to in the wake of Kane's departure, and there have been many named, including Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, Gent's Gift Orban, Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku and Juventus attacker Dusan Vlahovic.

Spurs quite simply need a goal-getter with journalist O'Rourke now sharing news on their plans for a new striker.

Indeed, writing a column for Football Insider, the reporter claims Tottenham "will now move for a prolific striker" after selling Kane and have done their homework on top targets.

Spurs "will now launch moves for their top choices" after Kane's exit, especially as Richarlison is not seen as the "long-term solution" to lead Postecoglou's forward line.

Postecoglou, meanwhile, has apparently been given time to work with transfer chiefs and draw up a shortlist of replacements for Tottenham's former star.

Which striker should Spurs sign?

We believe Gent forward Orban is the perfect solution, as reports suggest he could be sold for a very attainable £25 million.

The Nigeria forward has been in sublime form recently, scoring 20 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions last term.

Orban has continued in that vain so far this campaign with five goals in just four cameos in all competitions, making him quite the exciting prospect to succeed Kane.

The young in-form attacker has even been called one of latest Nigeria's golden generation by sections of the media like journalist Ryan Taylor.

"Gift Orban, Victor Boniface & Tolu Arokodare. Remember these names," wrote Taylor.

"Making waves in Belgium & on European stage. Throw in Victor Osimhen & Terem Moffi – future looks very bright for Nigeria. Quickly approaching a golden generation for the Super Eagles."

Frustrated Root calls for England to produce 'game of their lives'

Joe Root has called on his England team to ‘stand up and be counted’ ahead of ‘one of the biggest games of our lives’

George Dobell in Perth12-Dec-20172:47

The world’s changed for the England cricket team – Cook

Joe Root has called on his England team to “stand up and be counted” ahead of “one of the biggest games of our lives”.England go into the third Test at the WACA – a venue where they have lost their last seven Tests – needing at least a draw to keep alive their hopes of retaining the Ashes. But, after a week in which his team’s reputation has again been dragged through the mud, Root feels they need a good performance not just to claw their way back into the series, but to win back the respect of the general public.”Frustrated” is a word that crops up a lot with Root right now. He is “frustrated” that his team are 2-0 down despite having shown, in patches, that they could do better. He’s “frustrated” that he is spending his time talking about boozing rather than batting. And he is “frustrated” that a couple of players could add fuel to the flames by behaving foolishly when they knew the eyes of the media were upon them. He used the word seven times in his brief chat with members of the UK media on Tuesday. His expression screamed it.But while he accepts a couple of his players have been guilty of “a little bit of naivety” and they “have to be smarter” in the way they go about their private lives, he insists recent reports do not accurately portray the character of his team.”We, as a group, will not brag or boast about stuff we do away from the game or stuff we do to help other people because they’re good blokes, they’re good people,” Root said. “But unfortunately incidents like that let us down and lead people to believe otherwise.”The majority of things have been done right for the majority of the time by the majority of the group. And the one thing I’m really proud of and one of this group’s big strengths is we do look after each other. That’s proof that we are good blokes and good human beings. We care about each other and, though the lads may have done some stupid stuff, we are all in this together and we are only going to win if we stick together.”It’s frustrating that, in the circumstances we’re in, guys have made silly mistakes that are going to get blown out of proportion. So we have to be smarter as a group. The guys have to learn very quickly.”[The way we’re being portrayed] It’s not us as a team. A lot of the stuff that’s been spouted is giving ammunition to stuff that isn’t us. I think there has been a little bit of naivety. And that’s frustrating.”It’s annoying that a lot of the talk is about stuff off the field. I’m fed up of talking about stuff that isn’t cricket.”Ultimately the only way we can change that is by winning games of cricket. We have to make sure we perform well this week and win. We have to get people talking about the cricket. And if we win this week and go to Melbourne with the score 2-1, then the whole dynamic of the series changes and we’ve proved to ourselves that we’re right in this contest.”We still believe we can win the series but we now need to prove that to everyone else. The only way we’ll do that is by winning.”To that end, Root hopes his entire squad will be able to put off-field distractions out of their minds so they can focus on their cricket. For England’s task was tough enough even before Butt-gate and Duck-gate. In particular, Root knows England have to improve on a batting record that has seen the side reach 250 only once in their four innings in the series.”We have to score more runs as a batting group,” he said. “It’s easy to single out individuals but ultimately it’s about doing it as a collective.”Nathan Lyon has been a big threat in the first two games where it has spun. It might be slightly different here. But if it is the same, we have to know how we are going to play it and how are we going to break him down.”So it’s time to stand up and be counted. We’re going into one of the biggest games of our lives. If we can stand up in the face of adversity and put in a big performance, that’s what people want to see.”It’s about winning. That’s what’s going to really get people back on side. We have to get it right on Thursday.”That’s the opportunity that’s in front of this group: to go and win here at the WACA for the first time in a long time. And if we get that right then there is no reason we can’t be sat here 2-1 next week.”

Everton Interested In Deal To Sign "Poor" £25k-p/w Defender

Everton are keen to strike a summer deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga, and a reliable journalist has revealed his stance on a possible move to Merseyside.

What age is Japhet Tanganga?

Tanganga is 24 years of age and has plied his trade with Ange Postecoglou’s side since his childhood days having graduated from the club’s academy to get promoted to the first team back in 2020, but last season, he fell significantly out of favour in N17.

The Lilywhites centre-back was handed just two starts and made the same number of substitute appearances in the Premier League, showing how low down in the pecking order he is in the capital, so despite still having another two years remaining on his contract, there’s a strong possibility he’ll be on the move before the end of the ongoing transfer window.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, England’s former youth international was hoping to secure a departure last summer due to his lack of game time and the outlet credited the Toffees with an interest, but even though a deal failed to materialise at the time, Sean Dyche is taking a second bite of the cherry if the following update is to be believed.

Are Everton signing Japhet Tanganga?

Speaking to Last Word On Spurs, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas name-checked Everton as one of the clubs eyeing a move for Tanganga, but it would appear that he’s currently not favouring the thought of joining the Blues. As quoted by Goodison News, he said:

“I think he’s waiting for Inter. Inter Milan are interested in him as well [along with Everton]. He’s on their shortlist. Their priority is to sign Benjamin Pavard. If you’re Tanganga and you missed out on a dream move to AC Milan last summer, it makes sense to wait this one out. There is Premier League interest in him as well and I’m aware of Luton too.”

Discipline

How much does Japhet Tanganga earn?

At Spurs, Tanganga currently pockets £25k-per-week, so he would be an affordable option for Everton, but having previously been slammed for his “poor” performances by journalist Josh Bunting, he may not be the profile of player that should be targeted by Dyche this summer.

The Hackney-born talent ranked as his club’s 18th worst defensive player last season, averaging just 0.8 tackles per top-flight game, alongside listing 24th overall out of 29 squad members, via WhoScored, showing how little of a positive impact he makes when handed the opportunity to play.

The RDF Football client, who also failed to register any goals or assists in the Premier League, has even lost three out of the four fixtures he’s been involved in when visiting L4, so if he can’t grind out a result when part of the away side, it’s highly unlikely that he’d be able to make any kind of difference when playing in front of the home crowd at Goodison Park, but it looks as if it could be one to watch.

West Ham: Journalist Shares important Jesse Lingard Update

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has shared an important update on West Ham United and a possible return for ex-midfield star Jesse Lingard.

Who have West Ham signed 2023?

The Hammers and manager David Moyes enjoyed a productive summer transfer window overall, sealing deals for Mexico international midfielder Edson Alvarez, ex-Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, defender Konstantinos Mavropanos and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus.

Declan Rice's £105 million departure to Arsenal, alongside Gianluca Scamacca's transfer to Atalanta, seemingly bolstered West Ham's transfer kitty enough for them to spend big on the aforementioned quartet.

Kudus, who excelled for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and for Ajax at club level last season, arguably stands out as their most exciting capture of the summer window.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Mohammed to West Ham United,” said the Irons manager after Kudus' arrival.

“He’s a terrific young talent, who has already shone at the very highest level for Ajax in the Champions League and made well over 150 senior appearances at the age of 23 – so it was no surprise to see so many top clubs chasing his signature this summer.

“The fact we’ve been able to attract a player of his undoubted quality to London Stadium shows the pull West Ham have now – the Board and Tim deserve huge credit for getting this one over the line.”

David-moyes-transfer-west-ham-united-deadline-day

Despite the summer window's closure on September 1, there have been rumours surrounding West Ham and their possible dip into the free agent market.

Indeed, reports suggest that they potentially have their eyes on a free agent striker; coming after they were thwarted in their deadline day attempts to sign Paris-Saint Germain forward Hugo Ekitike.

Meanwhile, former Irons star Lingard is another to be linked with a short-term contract, as the 32-cap England international has been training with West Ham in a bid to maintain his fitness.

The 30-year-old has apparently been impressing on-lookers at Rush Green, with reporter O'Rourke sharing an important update on their possible free agent offer for Lingard.

jesse-lingard-nottingham-forest-premier-league-transfers

Writing for Football Insider, he claims West Ham are still very much considering tabling a proposal for Lingard.

The former Man United attacker snubbed the chance to re-join them permanently last summer, instead choosing Nottingham Forest, but things didn't quite work out at the City Ground.

Lingard could be offered a short term West Ham deal after turning a heads at the club, though there is little else mentioned on the nature of timeline of this move.

What's been said about Jesse Lingard?

Former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking to FI last summer, claimed Lingard would be an "excellent signing" for West Ham.

“West Ham will be looking to strengthen,” Kenny said in 2022.

“They need an out-and-out striker but I think Lingard would be an excellent signing. I hope West Ham do go back in for him.

“He has an unbelievable time at West Ham. I heard rumours last week that he might be going to America.

“I hope he doesn’t, it would be a waste. I want to see him back in the Premier League. When he was playing week in week out he was unbelievable.

The player excelled in east London on a 2020/2021 loan spell from Man United, scoring nine goals and registering four assists over 16 league starts.

Scotland score first points, keep UAE winless

Matthew Cross hits maiden ODI century in 31-run victory

ESPNcricinfo staff21-Jan-2018Scotland opened their account in the UAE tri-series with a 31-run victory over the hosts in Dubai. Both teams began the game with no wins to their name in the series, with Ireland having won all four of their matches. UAE bowled in their bid for first points, and though they kept striking at regular intervals – they reduced Scotland to 133 for 6 by the 31st over – they could not get past the No. 3 Matthew Cross.Cross notched up 107 off 110 – his maiden ODI century – and found support in No. 6 George Munsey and No. 8 Safyaan Sharif. While Munsey counterattacked with 45 off 44, Sharif proved stubborn in his stand with Cross, making 22 off 40 to help lift the team towards a respectable total. Cross kept going till the end, finishing with ten fours and two sixes while ensuring his side were not bowled out shy of their 50 overs. They finished on 249 for 8.UAE’s reply was hit early when they lost Ashfaq Ahmed in the first over, but captain Rohan Mustafa and Ghulam Shabber steadied the chase. Shabber seemed to be playing a role similar to his opposite No. 3, but then he was run out – for 90, also his highest ODI score – and the hosts slipped from 160 for 4 to 165 for 6 in no time at all. Again lower-order resistance seemed to getting in the way of the bowling side, but new-ball bowler Stuart Whittingham got the breakthrough and that triggered another collapse. This time, UAE went from 202 for 6 to 218 all out. Whittingham was one of four Scotland bowlers to pick up a pair of wickets, and most of them did it in miserly spells, translating into a comfortable win for their team. The two teams will feature in a rematch on January 23 at the same venue to round-off the tri-series.

Zimbabwe are the underdogs – Heath Streak

Heath Streak, the Zimbabwe coach, has said that his team is the underdog in the tri-series, which also involves hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe are the lowest ranked team among the three in ODI cricket – they are placed tenth with 52 rating points. Sri Lanka are placed eighth with 84 rating points while Bangladesh are placed seventh with 92 rating points.Streak, however, took confidence from Zimbabwe’s historic 3-2 series win in Sri Lanka in July last year. Zimbabwe have not played an ODI since, and need to shake off the rust quickly.”I think we still have a long way to go,” Streak said. “We are the underdogs in this series. But I still feel that we have got the quality of players we need to take Zimbabwe cricket forward. We showed against Sri Lanka last year that we can compete against other countries outside our home territory. It was very pleasing but we have a long way to go as a team.”[The Sri Lanka ODI series win] will give us the belief and the confidence to compete. We haven’t played a lot of one-day cricket of late. We have played more Tests while SL have played 13 ODIs since we last played them. We haven’t played any. We have prepared well and hopefully we can get into the series as quickly as possible and then get some good results early on. I feel we have the players with the skills, and give them Sri Lanka and Bangladesh a good challenge. I know our team is capable of winning.”Streak, who was Bangladesh’s bowling coach when Chandika Hathurusingha was in charge of the side between 2014 and 2016, said he was looking forward to the challenge of facing his former team and colleague.”These days a lot of coaches are part of a team and become opposition, he said. “I had a good relation with Chandika [Hathurusingha] and Khaled [Mahmud] Sujon, the technical director. I think it will be a good challenge for all of us.”We know the conditions and players, so does Chandika [Hathurusingha]. I think a lot of these Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean guys play in the BPL. There aren’t many secrets out there anymore. It is about coming up with good plans and technical advice for the teams and making sure you execute those skills well.”

Burnley: Kompany Can Land Foster Upgrade With £15m Signing At Turf Moor

Burnley kicked off the 2023/24 Premier League campaign with a 3-0 defeat to champions Manchester City on the opening day last week.

How did Lyle Foster perform against Manchester City?

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany opted to go with Lyle Foster as his lone no.9 against Pep Guardiola's team and the centre-forward struggled throughout the match.

The 22-year-old recorded a Sofascore rating of 6.4, which was the joint-lowest of any starting midfielder or attacker for the Clarets, as he failed to register a single shot on target and created one chance for his teammates.

Burnley could look to strengthen their options in his position in order to give them the best possible chance of avoiding relegation and one player who they could look to is Sheraldo Becker, who was linked with the club earlier this summer.

How good is Sheraldo Becker?

The Union Berlin marksman, who has been valued at £15m by the German side, could come in as a big upgrade on Foster for Kompany if he is able to translate his Bundesliga form over to the Premier League.

Becker enjoyed a terrific 2022/23 campaign for Union as he showcased his ability as both a scorer and creator of goals from a number nine position.

The 28-year-old hotshot averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.13 across 34 Bundesliga appearances as he contributed with 11 goals and seven assists. His impressive finishing was on full display as he only missed two 'big chances' and scored 11 goals from just 5.71 xG.

Union Berlin striker Sheraldo Becker.

Foster, meanwhile, played 11 Championship matches for Burnley during the second half of last season and missed two 'big chances' to go along with one goal scored. That came after he scored eight goals and spurned four 'big chances' in 21 Pro League games at the backend of 2022.

These statistics suggest that Becker has the potential to offer a greater goal threat at the top end of the pitch, whilst also being more "clinical" – as he was once dubbed by journalist Josh Bunting – due to his minimal amount of missed opportunities.

Nathan Tella (17) was the only Burnley player who scored more than 11 league goals last term and he has since returned to Southampton after his loan spell. This means that the Suriname international could be a terrific scoring option for the Belgian head coach.

The Union star could also provide more creativity than Foster.

He produced eight 'big chances' and 1.3 key passes per game for his teammates last season in the Bundesliga, whereas the Clarets forward managed 0.5 key passes per Championship outing and failed to create a single 'big chance'.

Only Josh Brownhill (1.8) created more opportunities per match for Burnley than Becker did for Union and this suggests that the £15m-rated ace could be an outstanding creator for Kompany through the middle of the pitch.

Therefore, Becker would be a big upgrade on Foster in terms of the goals and assists he could rack up from a number nine position, and the Clarets target would come in as one of the biggest attacking threats for the team based on his form last season in comparison to their current options.

West Ham: Moyes Eyeing "Dream" £40m Partner For Paqueta At London Stadium

West Ham United are facing fierce competition from Fulham in the race to sign a Premier League striker before deadline day…

What’s the latest West Ham transfer news?

The Irons and the Cottagers are in the market for a new frontman, having lost Gianluca Scamacca and Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer, and both clubs have identified Dominic Solanke as a possible option.

According to Football Insider, West Ham have submitted an offer believed to be around £40m as they look to reinforce their attacking options.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

However, the report also said Fulham have a ‘concrete’ interest in Solanke, but the west Londoners are reluctant to match their city rival's bid and are only willing to table around £30m.

This puts David Moyes’ side in pole position, but a deal is far from finished as AFC Bournemouth are yet to accept any proposals.

Would Dominic Solanke be a good signing for West Ham?

Solanke’s decision to join the Cherries in 2019 has worked out beautifully, as he has evolved from being a sporadic second-tier scorer into a consistent top-flight threat.

In the 2021/22 season, the forward was an indispensable component of the Scott Parker side which clinched promotion back to the Premier League – he started every Championship game and was the division’s second-highest scorer with 29 goals.

As is the case with any free-scoring Championship striker, there is always an overhanging question mark of whether they will be effective in the top flight.

But, Solanke has demonstrated that he is a useful, dogged, and effervescent attacking force in the Premier League.

Last term, he netted six times and crafted seven assists, often tasked with dropping deep to link play and lead an aggressive press.

Dominic-Solanke-Bournemouth

His former manager Gary O’Neil recognised the £50k-per-week dynamo's invaluable contribution to the team and said:

“Dom works his socks off for me. People that maybe don’t know, could underestimate how big Dom is for this group. Absolutely massive. I couldn’t ask for a better number nine to go and face the challenges that we’re faced with.”

The 40-year-old has extended his praise, hailing Solanke as a “dream as a centre-forward.”

A workhorse frontman of this impressive profile could forge a devastating partnership with Lucas Paqueta, who now looks set to stay in the English capital.

The Brazilian is currently being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches, casting serious doubt over his proposed transfer to Manchester City. It was understood that the reigning European champions were close to reaching an agreement with the playmaker before the allegations surfaced.

Nevertheless, Paqueta hasn’t let this disruption affect his West Ham form, and he was a pivotal part of a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

The technician’s trickery and energy were a constant nuisance for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, and he rounded off the game with an injury-time penalty.

Similarly to Solanke, the 5 foot 11 artist has amassed a formidable reputation for his athleticism and work rate. This is mirrored by his rank within the top 5% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for tackles, blocks, clearances, and aerials won per 90.

The possibility of these attackers lining up together is a mouth-watering prospect and is an avenue that the West Ham hierarchy should continue exploring.
