Celtic Make Offer To Sign "Level Above" 21 y/o

Celtic have made a significant transfer offer to sign Gangwon FC attacker Yang Hyun-jun, according to reports.

What’s the latest Celtic transfer news involving Yang?

The Hoops now appear to have their eyes on multiple signings after securing a deal to bring Brendan Rodgers back as manager. The Northern Irishman is set to be backed in the transfer market by the Parkhead board, with Champions League football on offer in Glasgow next season.

The club have acted swiftly and announced the signing of Norwegian playmaker Odin Thiago Holm on Thursday, with the 20-year-old arriving from Valerenga and penning a five-year deal in Glasgow.

Midfield appears to be an area the club are looking to bolster, with Leicester City’s defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi a target. Alongside the Nigerian, it looks as if the club have identified a new target in Yang.

Journalist Jason Lee took to Twitter in the last 48 hours to relay reports coming out of South Korea regarding Celtic and Yang. He said that the Hoops have made a "significant and final" offer for Yang, with the player keen to move to Glasgow.

“According to Korean media, Celtic have sent an official transfer offer to Gangwon FC for Yang Hyun-Jun. The offer is believed to be "significant and final" as Celtic await Gangwon's response. The player is eager to move to Celtic.”

Brendan Rodgers

Who is Yang Hyun-jun?

Hailed as “excellent” and a “level above” in the media following a pre-season display against Tottenham last year, Yang is primarily a right-winger who can also play on the left or through the middle.

The 21-year-old is valued at a career-high €700,000 by Transfermarkt and has made 67 senior appearances for his current employers, scoring nine times and registering five assists.

Described as Gangwon's up-and-coming star who is unpredictable and eye-catching by K League United columnist Nathan Sartain, he could be the next exciting Asian player to move to Parkhead, following in the footsteps of the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate.

Rodgers currently has two right-wingers on the books in James Forrest and Liel Abada and three left-wingers in Jota, Maeda and Sead Haksabanovic, so Yang could balance the club's wide ranks while also offering plenty of versatility, making this a transfer to keep an eye on.

Malinga unavailable for SA T20Is and ODIs

Lasith Malinga will be unavailable for the forthcoming T20 and ODI series in South Africa after a bout of dengue forced a setback in his return from injury, Malinga’s management team has confirmed.A bone bruise in his left knee had forced Malinga to withdraw from the World T20 and the IPL last year, and though he had returned to training as early as September, he had been increasing his workload in careful increments in order to regain match fitness without aggravating the injury. His illness prior to Christmas had prompted him to slow the increase in intensity of his training, however, and Malinga will now only attempt to return in time for the three-match T20 series against Australia, scheduled to begin on February 17.Malinga has played only one international match since November 2015, with multiple leg injuries having caused him substantial problems since at least the middle of 2014.In his absence, Sri Lanka will have to pick their frontline seamers from a pace battery that includes Nuwan Kulasekara, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara, Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Gamage. The first of the three T20s is scheduled for January 20; the first of the five ODIs for January 28.

Du Plessis' 185 makes it 4-0 for SA

Faf du Plessis struck the second-highest score by a South African in ODIs to help them win by 40 runs and move within one win to become the No. 1 ranked team

The Report by Firdose Moonda07-Feb-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details Faf du Plessis unleashed a variety of drives during his 185 – the second-highest score by a South African in ODIs•Getty ImagesA Sri Lankan line-up that was dismissed for under 190 in the first three ODIs and had not topped 300 in any format on the current tour of South Africa made a fist of chasing a record total at Newlands, but eventually fell 40 runs short. South Africa’s batsmen filled the boots by posting the highest total at the ground, overtaking the 354 for 3 they put on against Kenya in 2001. It proved enough to extend their winning streak at home to 13 matches and put them one win away from the No.1 ODI rankings.Dickwella, Rabada fined for breaching code of conduct

Sri Lanka opener Niroshan Dickwella and South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada have both been fined 50% of their match fees for breaching the ICC’s code of conduct during the fourth ODI in Cape Town. In addition to the fines, three demerit points have been added to both Dickwella and Rabada’s disciplinary records.
The two players were found to have been in violation with Article 2.2.7, which relates to “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other Person (including a spectator) in the course of play during an international match”.
The incident took place in the 12th over of Sri Lanka’s 368 chase when Dickwella and Rabada made contact with each other, after the batsman had completed a single, at the non-striker’s end.
Since both players admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Richie Richardson, the match referee, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Quinton de Kock scored his first fifty of the series, AB de Villiers his 50th ODI fifty, but Faf du Plessis stole the show. His second century of the series also made him the holder of the second-highest individual score by a South African, surpassing de Kock’s unbeaten 178 against Australia in September 2016 and three runs short of Gary Kirsten’s 188* against the UAE at the 1996 World Cup.Sri Lanka’s reply started strongly as Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella plundered 100 runs off the first ten overs. Tharanga went on to score the first century by a Sri Lankan batsman on this trip but was dismissed in the 30th over. It left Sri Lanka with a tough task of having to sustain momentum.Sandun Weerakkody, playing in just his second ODI, ensured that by bringing up a maiden half-century to keep Sri Lanka within range, and even put them ahead of South Africa at times. After 45 overs, Sri Lanka were 317 for 7. In comparison, South Africa had only reached 317 at the end of 46 overs. But as is so often the case for South Africa, Imran Tahir came up with crucial incisions. He took two wickets in his final over – trapping Nuwan Kulasekara lbw and having Weerakkody caught at backward point – to leave Sri Lanka needing 51 off the last four overs with just one wicket standing. They didn’t get there, but neither have 22 other chasing teams in day-night matches at Newlands. Sri Lanka, however, put on the most runs among all sides that have attempted to chase down totals.South Africa knew the advantages that could be gained from setting a target and chose to do that on a flat deck. Hashim Amla was dismissed early but that only gave du Plessis enough time to settle in and build an innings. He shared a century stand with de Kock by the time Sri Lanka could have their first drink. De Kock brought up fifty off 40 balls and was threatening more but added five more before he edged Sachith Pathirana to Tharanga at slip.If Sri Lanka thought that would slow South Africa down, they were wrong. De Kock and du Plessis had motored on at a rate of 6.89; de Villiers picked up exactly where they left off and put on 137 runs with du Plessis at 6.90. Their contributions were almost mirror images of each other – du Plessis scored 70 runs in their stand; de Villiers 64. Du Plessis’ fifty came off 46 balls with a drive off a half-volley. De Villiers reached his fifty off 51 balls, the delivery before du Plessis dug out a Kumara yorker to get to a hundred. De Villiers only added another 14 runs before being bowled around his legs; du Plessis did not give them any such let-off.As his innings went on, he batted more aggressively. His first fifty came off 46 balls, his second off 43 and his third off 40 as he brought out everything from a straight drive back over the bowler’s head to a scoop over fine leg, once in the same over.Farhaan Behardien was not simply a passive observer. He scored almost half the runs (31) in a 74-run stand but was happy to hand strike back to du Plessis as he went in search of the record. Du Plessis wanted it and hit Nuwan Kulasekara for six in the penultimate over to overtake de Kock and then tried to repeat the feat with four balls to go. Du Plessis did not get enough power behind his shot and long-on took the catch to end his quest. For Sri Lanka, though, the damage seemed done.Their batting throughout this trip has left much to be desired but with nothing to lose, they came out blazing. Tharanga and Dickwella, who had already scored two half-centuries on this tour, enjoyed the batting conditions as much as South Africa had. Wayne Parnell and Dwaine Pretorius opened the bowling, JP Duminy was given the ball when it was three overs old, Imran Tahir was called on in the powerplay and Tabraiz Shamsi was not used until the 14th over. By then, Sri Lanka had made their intent clear.Pretorius made the first breakthrough in his second spell, when he had started to use the short ball more. Dickwella played early to a delivery that got big on him and he top-edged to Behardien at deep square leg to end a 139-run opening stand. Like du Plessis, Tharanga continued almost completely unaffected by a dismissal and brought up a 73-ball hundred. At the halfway stage, Sri Lanka had scored more runs they had in this series so far – when their best performance was 186 – and had brought the required run-rate down to just under seven an over. Much rested on Tharanga though, especially when Kusal Mendis walked across his stumps and gloved a Parnell delivery to de Kock. Tharanga only managed two more shots in anger before he steered Parnell to backward point and Sri Lanka’s challenge looked over. But there was some depth to the Sri Lankan effort and it came in the form of Weerakkody. He started slowly and lost Dhananjaya de Silva to an lbw, but put on a 79-run fifth-wicket stand with Asela Gunaratne, the intent against Shamsi and Pretorius’ short ball was noticeable. He brought up fifty off 46 balls to keep them alive. But Tahir had other plans to give South Africa an opportunity of inflicting a series whitewash.

Chelsea eye "sensational" 22y/o goalkeeper

Alongside a new midfielder and striker, the goalkeeper is another position that simply must be upgraded by Chelsea.

The incoming Mauricio Pochettino is attempting to fix the mess of the new ownership, who have spent around £585.5m but have failed to source a consistent and reliable shot-stopper.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is a name that has been linked to solving this damaging conundrum.

What’s the latest Giorgi Mamardashvili to Chelsea?

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are keenly tracking the Valencia man.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the favourites to join the West Londoners after it was revealed that the club has ended its interest in Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.

It is understood that Chelsea have also distanced themselves from AC Milan’s Mike Maignan as they were put off by his mammoth £80m asking price.

Therefore, Mamardashvili has now become the focus and is viewed as a cheaper and more attainable alternative, with a reported £26m price tag.

Is Giorgi Mamardashvili a good signing for Chelsea?

The Georgian joined Valencia on a permanent deal in December 2021 and has made 63 appearances for the club, conceding just 71 goals whilst keeping 18 clean sheets.

During his debut campaign for Los Che, the 6 foot 5 titan went 560 minutes in a row without letting in a goal.

As recognition for his swift and smooth acclimatisation to Spanish football, the eight-cap international was named in Marca’s La Liga Discovery of the Season term.

Last term, he played every game for Valencia in the league and was arguably the team's most important asset, as the club narrowly avoided relegation.

A player of this reputation, form, and potential dramatically differs from Edouard Mendy, who is set to leave.

When the Senegalese arrived in West London in 2020 he was an incredible breath of fresh air, as he conceded just 29 goals in 44 games as he won the Champions League.

However, since this ceremonial moment, it has just been downhill for the 31-year-old, who has made more errors that have led to goals (2), than he has clean sheets (1) in the Premier League this term, as per Sofascore.

Edouard Mendy Chelsea

Despite Kepa Arrizabalaga’s highly questionable consistency, Mendy still couldn’t break back into the first team after injury and began just one of the club’s last ten top-flight encounters.

Therefore, it is a position that desperately needs to be addressed as Mendy has been labelled as a “liability” by the Athletic's Liam Twomey to underline his untenable predicament.

Comparatively described as “sensational” by a journalist, the signing of Mamardashvili would therefore be a fantastic replacement for Mendy.

Liverpool Could Reignite Fabinho With Elite £34m ‘Monster’

Liverpool's pursuit of Khephren Thuram has been no secret over the past several weeks, and now manager Jurgen Klopp is preparing to lodge a formal offer for the Frenchman.

What's the latest on Khephren Thuram to Liverpool?

Following a recent report from Nice-Matin (via GET Football News France), it has come to surface that the Reds are preparing a bid for the OGC Nice midfielder, who has been of increasing interest to the club over the past several weeks.

This follows a recent claim from Fabrizio Romano – via Caught Offside – that Liverpool are prioritising the 22-year-old over Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch, who only signed for the Bavaria outfit last year.

Les Aiglons won't sanction a move for anything less than €40m (£34m), but given that James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all departed Liverpool this term and Alexis Mac Allister has already been signed for a similar amount, £35m, it is certainly a feasible deal.

How would Khephren Thuram perform at Liverpool?

The energy and intensity that Thuram would bring to the Liverpool centre would undoubtedly enhance the performances of all around him, especially considering the club's seasonal malaise has largely been attributed to the flimsiness of the midfield and an inability to protect the defence.

This stagnancy would be swept aside in a gale of blustering wind with Thuram's prospective arrival, and alongside Mac Allister and perhaps one further addition, the once formidable strength of Klopp's midfield would return, charged by an undying intensity and high-pressure approach.

One who may prosper more than most is pivoting midfielder Fabinho, who has been an instrumental part of Klopp's Anfield dynasty since signing from Monaco for around £44m in 2018, winning the Premier League and Champions League among a wealth of major honours, but has been culpable of a stark decline to coincide with his club's this term, having been said to have "fallen off a cliff" by The Redmen TV's Ste Hoare.

Also branded "awful" by club icon Jamie Carragher for one disastrous display, the £180k-per-week anchor has been poor but looked to have rekindled some of his fire in the closing weeks, and could be fit and firing once again come August.

fabinho-liverpool-premier-league

Especially with an "elite" partner in Thuram, as he has been called by journalist Zach Lowy, to join Liverpool and "transform their midfield"; having completed an impressive season in Ligue 1, the £14k-per-week ace ranks among the top 6% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for progressive carries and the top 9% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

Such a progressive nature would no doubt complement Fabinho well who in contrast lacks the athleticism to do such a job.

A veritable "monster" in the centre of the park, as praised by Sam McGuire, the one-cap international's energy and enthusiasm will only play to Liverpool's favour, and with a robust crop around him, Fabinho could find himself at the beating heart of an imperious system once again.

Bacher lauds de Villiers for 'wise' decision

AB de Villiers has made a “wise decision” in the “best interests of South African cricket,” by sitting out of Test cricket for most of the rest of 2017

Firdose Moonda18-Jan-20173:27

‘I needed time away, I need more’ – de Villiers

AB de Villiers has made a “wise decision” in the “best interests of South African cricket,” by sitting out of Test cricket for most of the rest of 2017, according to Ali Bacher, the former South Africa captain and veteran administrator.Bacher met with de Villiers on Tuesday, shortly after de Villiers had ruled himself out of the New Zealand Tests in March, and told ESPNcricinfo he thought de Villiers had done the right thing.”AB is an extraordinary individual and the amount of cricket he has played has taken its toll on his body. If he had to play all formats, his body will break down,” Bacher said. “He has made a wise decision to go about things cautiously and get his body ready to take on the world again.”De Villiers has spent the last six months on the sidelines as he recovered from an elbow injury that required surgery. He is due to make a comeback in a T20 against Sri Lanka on January 25, with a view to playing in the five-match ODI series that follows, and hopes to lead South Africa to the Champions Trophy and ultimately the 2019 World Cup.Fifty-over cricket is his focus and Bacher believes de Villiers will not rest until he has his hands on an ICC trophy. “He is extremely passionate about South African cricket and about winning that World Cup,” Bacher said.Bacher also brushed aside concerns that de Villiers’ extended time out of the Test arena will see the team move on without him.”He is one of the greats and I would think that, when he is fit and ready, he will be an automatic pick.” He asked the South African public to be patient with de Villiers because “he has given 100%”, and has served them “non-stop”.De Villiers had played international cricket for 12 years, including 98 Tests in succession from his debut to July 2015. He missed South Africa’s series in Bangladesh on that occasion, because of paternity commitments.”It is vigorous. The practice schedule and the playing. And he has been going like this since 2004. He has done so much and if he is not wise he will break down again. I have seen no difference in the way he feels about playing for South Africa.”Bacher was interviewing de Villiers for his television series at de Villiers’ old school, Affies, where Bacher also read out a message from Sachin Tendulkar in praise of AB.”I got hold of Sachin Tendulkar, who was my first interviewee for the show in 2010, and I asked him to send me a few words about AB. He holds AB in such regard for the way he has changed the context of the modern game. AB is a special person and a special cricketer. South Africa must not forget that.”

Rio Ferdinand Claims He’d Be Worth £400k-p/w These Days

If Premier League legends played in their prime in today’s market, there’s no doubting that the fees negotiated would be up there with some of the highest that we’ve ever seen. The inflation in fees has seen the likes of Antony hit the £82m mark, so we dread to think how much the likes of Rio Ferdinand would be worth.Ever the confident defender, however, even if backed up by his illustrious career, Ferdinand believes that he’d be worth more than double the £75m fee that Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk back in January 2018.

Who are the most expensive players in football history?

Given the price that he thinks he’d be worth, the former Manchester United defender would rank among the most expensive players in history. According to Transfermark, the top five list has Neymar sitting top after his move to Paris Saint-Germain cost €222m (£190.71m). Meanwhile, his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe cost the French club €180m (£154.6m).

Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele make up third and fourth at €135m (£115.9m), whilst João Félix cost Atletico Madrid €127.20m (£109.2m).

So, with that said, given the fact that Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel that he believes he’d be worth £170m in today’s market, the defender would rank second in the most expensive players of all time.

The Premier League winner would also become the most expensive defender in football history, thankfully taking the mantle from a certain Harry Maguire, who cost United £80m back in 2019. The less said about that transfer, the better.

Perhaps if United had a player of Ferdinand’s level these days then they wouldn’t be going through such a difficult spell without many major trophies – ending a six-year drought with their Carabao Cup triumph last term. It must be said, however, not many clubs in world football could splash out more than £150m on a player, no matter the ability.

Ferdinand would be worth spending the money on if a club had the funds available. Even in the modern game, where defenders need to be press resistant and able to play from the back, he would thrive, as highlighted in a compilation put together by @niamhutd:

What did Rio Ferdinand say?

Speaking on his YouTube channel when the topic of how much he’d be worth in today’s market came up, Ferdinand said: “£100m would be cheap for me in today’s market. £170m, £400,000-a-week. That’s what I’ll be now.”

Bear in mind, PSG reportedly could sell Mbappe for €150m (£129) this summer.

The £400k in wages is an interesting number, too. Within Manchester United’s current squad, that would put the defender top of the Red Devils’ earners, as per Salary Sport, with David de Gea losing top spot. So, on that front, United can count themselves lucky that Ferdinand is not in his prime and playing these days.

Rangers’ "Energetic" £3.5m Target Set For Medical At Ibrox

Glasgow Rangers target Sam Lammers is expected to imminently fly over for a medical to complete his move to the Scottish Premiership, according to reports.

Who is Sam Lammers?

Lammers is a striker who is currently contracted to Atalanta, but having only ever made 19 senior first-team appearances, he’s spent the majority of his career out on loan. He's carried out temporary spells with Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Empoli and most recently Sampdoria during his time at the Gewiss Stadium.

The Light Blues were credited with an interest in the 26-year-old last month and reports later claimed that Michael Beale was set to step up his pursuit and was preparing to make a move after not only being impressed but being alerted to the centre-forward's availability in the Serie A.

If the following update is to be believed, a deal could be completed in the coming days.

Are Rangers signing Lammers?

According to The Scottish Mail on Sunday (via Rangers News), Lammers is "heading for a medical" and is likely to arrive in Glasgow "within the next 48 hours" to seal his switch to Ibrox. The Teddy Bears are "close" to reaching an agreement, with a deal expected to be finalised "this week".

Steven Gerrard reportedly wanted to sign the attacker back in 2020 when he was in charge, and whilst a move failed to come to fruition at the time, it seems he's finally on his way for a fee of £3.5m.

Sampdoria striker Sam Lammers.

Rangers will be in the market for a new centre-forward to replace the departing Alfredo Morelos, and whilst Lammers has been lauded an “energetic” player by journalist Josh Bunting in terms of his running power, he’s not prolific enough in the final third so Beale should be looking to add a second forward signing to replace Morelos' goals.

The Dutchman, who has the ability to play with both feet, only scored one goal in 20 appearances at Sampdoria and ranked as Dejan Stankovic’s 10th worst-performing offensive player and 13th overall with a WhoScored match rating of just 6.43, failing to have any kind of positive impact during his time on the road.

Lammers wouldn’t offer any kind of versatility having only operated in his usual role through the middle for the majority of his career, playing three times in attacking midfield and just once out wide on the right wing, via Transfermarkt. The boss would be pretty limited to using him almost exclusively as a number nine, meaning Lammers will have to improve his end product to become a sure starter.

Everton Could Land ‘Huge Talent’ For Free This Summer

Everton are reportedly interested in a Premier League gem, as the Blues aim to turn their fortunes around after two dreary seasons threatened relegation.

Sean Dyche will hope for a busy summer at Goodison, with the Toffees requiring reinforcements to pull them away from the lows of the table to get things on the pitch ticking again.

The latest link could emerge as a potential heir to a club legend, in a player that possesses core attributes.

What’s the latest on Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Everton?

As reported earlier this week, Everton have emerged as one of the clubs interested in Arsenal gem Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The versatile defender will be released by the north Londoners at the expiration of his contract, with the report claiming that ‘several’ clubs from the Premier League are ‘keeping an eye’ on his movements.

After spending the season on loan at Southampton, the Englishman returned to his boyhood club where contract talks failed to progress, which has revealed a potential bargain for Sean Dyche.

What could Ainsley Maitland-Niles offer to Everton?

Despite undergoing a tough season at St Mary’s, the 25-year-old has proven himself as a player with innate versatility through the years in his career.

Playing primarily at right-back, the defensive-minded ace could equip Everton with a skill set familiar to that of Seamus Coleman, who at 34 years old could have an heir to his services provided this summer.

Lauded as a “huge talent” by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, the Londoner worked through the ranks with the Gunners, representing the club for a total of 19 years.

The Englishman could ease the transition should Everton opt to fade out the presence of their dedicated servant, as Coleman’s contract officially expires this summer with a new deal offered.

Maitland-Niles possesses talents similar to those shown by the Irishman, as displayed through his statistics, making him a potentially strong addition to Dyche’s side.

When comparing the two on their respective 2022/23 Premier League campaigns, the numbers show that the 25-year-old could be the perfect heir to the 34-year-old.

As per FBref, the former Arsenal gem averaged 2.88 tackles and 1.79 blocks per 90 this term, with Coleman averaging slightly lower with 1.90 tackles and 0.76 blocks over the same period of time for Everton.

Playing as a full-back requires abilities on the ball and going forward also, with Maitland-Niles averaging 1.09 successful take-ons and 3.65 progressive passes per 90 to the Merseyside veterans 0.87 take-ons and 3.32 progressive passes, via FBref.

The numbers convey that Dyche’s side could adapt and progress with the versatile former Southampton star in their ranks, with a player that could ease the transition when Coleman eventually departs.
