Steve Parish has no excuse not to pay out to sign Allan Saint-Maximin now

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace will need to pay £25m if they want to sign Nice attacker Allan Saint-Maximin this summer, and chairman and co-owner Steve Parish could get back into some Eagles fans’ good books if he sanctions a deal.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Mail report that the south London outfit see the 22-year-old as a player who can not only provide competition for Wilfried Zaha in the present, but also potentially be his long-term replacement should the Ivory Coast international leave Selhurst Park.

According to the BBC, Palace would want £80m to consider selling the 26-year-old, although they are reluctant to do any business this summer having already seen Aaron Wan-Bissaka depart for Manchester United.

Eagles supporters on Twitter weren’t happy with Parish over the exit of the 21-year-old for an initial £45m fee, with the Red Devils keeping their 25% sell-on clause for Zaha intact. A previous report in The Guardian on Monday suggested he wanted £50m up front and the clause either reduced or removed entirely, and some fans were quick to say he bottled it in the end.

Chance to make amends

Signing Saint-Maximin for £25m is a bit of a no-brainer for Palace now they have received £45m for Wan-Bissaka, and he would be an exciting addition to Roy Hodgson’s side’s frontline.

Are Crystal Palace right to slap a £100m valuation on Wilfried Zaha’s head? Check out the video below to see why they are…

A potential attack of the Frenchman, Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend could be on the cards come the beginning of the new season in August, which would certainly frighten plenty of Premier League defences next term.

Six goals and three assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances in 2018/19 show the ability that Saint-Maximin has in his locker, while he successfully completed 143 of the 252 dribbles he attempted.

He is clearly a player who would get Crystal Palace supporters off of their seats, and the club shouldn’t waste any time getting a move secured.

Hasenhuttl’s misplacing his transfer priorities with pursuit of winger Danjuma

[ad_pod ]

According to Voetbal International, Southampton have joined the race for Club Brugge winger Arnaut Danjuma.

What’s the deal, then?

It was recently reported that the 22-year-old was ‘getting ready for a transfer’ and that Spurs were interested in him.

However, the same article stated it would take some time for a deal to get over the line between Tottenham and the Belgian side.

And now it is thought Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men could snap up the Dutchman, although his price tag is yet unknown.

The former NEC Nijmegen player only moved to Brugge in the summer of last year, but is already said to be attracting interest from major outfits in England, Spain and Italy.

Saints’ money could be better spent elsewhere

The youngster’s record in the Jupiler Pro League will hardly blow you away – six goals and four assists in 24 appearances during the previous campaign.

In fact, his only real breakthrough season came in the second tier of Dutch football where he bagged 11 goals and 17 assists in 28 games.

It is by no means guaranteed then that the PSV youth team player will hit the ground running at St Mary’s, so should Hasenhuttl bother adding yet another attacking player to his squad?

With the signatures of Moussa Djenepo, Che Adams and Danny Ings already having been completed this summer, there are undoubtedly areas which need strengthening more than on the flanks and upfront – like at centre-half.

Southampton’s new man Moussa Djenepo divides opinion amongst fans in the video below…

The Mirror’s live transfer blog (July 2, 13:29) have linked defender Jack Stephens with a move to Aston Villa, while Wesley Hoedt is someone who, according to The Telegraph, could also be leaving south coast in the window.

If that is to be the case, it is critical Hasenhuttl turns his attention to filling the void in the middle of defence, especially considering they conceded the sixth-highest number of goals in the Premier League last year.

Liverpool pundit Danny Murphy suggests Ousmane Dembele would be a "fantastic signing"

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to bwin, former Liverpool man Danny Murphy has revealed Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele would be a “fantastic signing” for the Reds this summer.

What did he say?

After the euphoria of laying their hands on yet another Champions League title, the summer transfer window has been a rather low-key affair for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Reports in recent weeks and months had linked Dembele with a move to Anfield following a rather underwhelming time at the Camp Nou, and now Murphy has now suggested a potential move for the winger could be inspired.

He said: “Dembele would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool. He’s not had the best time at Barcelona, but clearly has an abundance of talent and the ability to win games by himself. If he can recapture his belief in his ability then Liverpool would have a formidable front three with him, Mane and Salah.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

“When playing to his potential, I think he would edge Firmino out of the first team. Firmino is the type of player that would raise his own game and everyone’s around him if Dembele came into the team. He’ll fight for his place week in week out and if you’re not giving your all on the pitch, then Firmino will be right there to take it.”

A wise move?

Despite all their successes last season, Liverpool continued to be heavily reliant on their famed front three to score the bulk of their goals – they netted 56 times in the top flight last season. Off the bench, whilst Divock Origi etched himself into folklore with his goals against Barcelona and Tottenham in the Champions League, the Belgian and his fellow substitute options represented a significant downgrade in quality.

A move for Dembele therefore could be a real game-changer in terms of depth. The France international’s electric pace and dribbling skills could see him add a bit of spark to the Reds’ attack. However, there is an argument to be made that the 22-year-old’s arrival would simply upset the balance and cohesion Klopp has built up.

Indeed, would Dembele buy into the off-the-ball work the German demands? Would he be prepared to play second fiddle to the likes of Firmino, Salah and Mane if he doesn’t earn an instant first team place? Whilst Murphy’s suggestion certainly has its merits, it’s difficult to see how and why swooping for Dembele would be worth it when there is a great likelihood he would just be sitting on the bench.

Likewise, having had his attitude questioned at Barcelona, there’s no guarantee he would acclimatise to the industrious aspects of Klopp’s football either, or embrace the collective spirit that has been so prominent at Anfield during the German’s time there.

Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo has received glowing endorsements

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Expert Roundup feature, which provides three quotes from those in the know in order to illuminate a reported transfer target’s fundamental strengths, weaknesses, quirks, kinks, stylistic comparisons and general observations.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Daily Mail), Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo is enticed by the prospect of playing his football in north London next season.

Zaniolo has been linked with a move to Spurs for a large portion of the transfer window, with some reports claiming that Toby Alderweireld could be used as a makeweight in a potential part exchange deal.

The Italian was deployed in a variety of positions last term, scoring six goals and chalking up two assists in 2,256 minutes across all competitions, spread over 36 appearances – add to that record the fact that the player is only 20, and it’s clear as to why Spurs want to add him to their squad this summer.

Having already smashed their transfer record to bring Tanguy Ndombele to north London, Mauricio Pochettino and co have given Lilywhites fans plenty to be excited about after two transfer windows bearing no arrivals.

Competition in the former Southampton boss’ midfield is already hot and the addition of a young, hungry attacker to the mix will only make it more so.

Here’s what those in the know have had to say about the coveted talent’s ability and potential…

Roberto Mancini, Italy manager

Italy boss Mancini didn’t hesitate to draw comparisons between the left-footed star and an established Premier League midfielder:

“I have seen some qualities he has, and some he doesn’t. He is different from [Nicolo] Barella, Jorginho or [Marco] Verratti.

“The comparison with Pogba is there. But we need to be calm and show some patience because he will at some point struggle as well.”

Both Pogba and Zaniolo excel given freedom in the attacking third and license to get up and support the strikers in a number 10 role, while their surprising technical and athleticism given their respective frames is also shared.

Manchester United man Pogba completed 1.7 dribbles per game in the league last term, while Zaniolo completed 1.5 per game – given that the World Cup-winning number 6 is renowned for his powerful bursts forward, this stat is a testament to the young Italian’s ability on the ball.

Pogba also enjoys playing on the left of a midfield three, where he can drift outside before coming back in to cause damage – this dynamic features in Zaniolo’s game, as the Italian is able to play on the right wing, where he can chop inside onto his stronger left foot.

Daniele De Rossi, Roma legend

The recently-departed midfielder was full of praise for his teammate after Roma’s 2-1 victory over Porto in February:

“It’s another small milestone, perhaps not even a small one, that adds to what he is showing game after game and even training session after training session.

“He has an incredible natural physique for someone who is only 19 and also has great technical quality. In my opinion, as perhaps with everyone now, he is already a very good player – and can become a great one.”

The youngster stole the show in his side’s Champions League first leg victory over their Portuguese opposition, scoring both goals and thus becoming the youngest-ever player to net a brace in the competition on his first-ever knockout rounds appearance.

Clearly, the number 22 has ice in his veins to not just prevent the undoubted nerves he must have been feeling from throwing him off his game but to produce one of his best displays of the season.

De Rossi already rates the starlet very highly it would seem and is confident that he can become even better – what better environment for him to hone his abilities than Spurs, where he will have the opportunity to work with a manager who is renowned for his development of young players?

Francesco Totti, Roma legend

Roma’s all-time record goalscorer suggested that the 20-year-old was beyond his years in terms of both skill and physical abilities:

“He’s like a veteran. He keeps it simple. Little by little, he’s finding continuity and showing his ability. Nicolo is explosive – he’s strong, skillful. He’s got everything to become a great player. But don’t let him know I said that. If anything changes, it’ll be my fault.”

Totti is right to be wary; heaping so much praise on a young player is risky but the legendary number 10 isn’t far wrong – Zaniolo’s decision-making and extraordinary power on the ball betray his age and it’s frightening to imagine what the midfielder could become in the future.

Given the form of Son Heung-min and the heroic rise of Lucas Moura in 2018/19, Zaniolo will have a job on his hands to displace either from the starting XI but there’s little doubt that Totti thinks he’s absolutely capable.

You’d be foolish to bet against a player who has earned such high praise from a legend of the game.

Liverpool’s interest in Nicolas Pepe is at a crucial stage after Man Utd talks progress

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United have made progress in their pursuit of Lille forward Nicolas Pepe, with talks now said to be at an advanced stage between the two clubs.

What’s the word, then?

Well, it has been reported that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are also interested in landing the Ivory Coast international, who put his name up in lights thanks to his incredible form last season.

Merseyside rivals Everton have also expressed an interest in signing the 24-year-old, who finished behind only Kylian Mbappe in the Ligue 1 scoring ranks last term with 22 goals.

“It reminds me of a bus seat!” – Watch a damning verdict on Chelsea’s new kit in the video below…

Pepe also notched 11 assists, and it is evident as to why some of Europe’s top clubs such as Inter Milan want him along with the aforementioned teams – the 6 foot forward is one of the hottest properties on the market.

Now or never for Liverpool

Of course, interest in a player is all well and good, but making a significant move is an entirely different animal.

United seem to be the ones who have taken the first step in doing so. Talks are at an advanced stage, and with just a few weeks remaining of the transfer window, mere interest in transfer targets will need to be turned into concrete advances – we’re looking at you, Liverpool.

If the Champions League winners really want Pepe, it is now or never for the Reds to get involved in negotiations with Lille as the Red Devils have done.

No such reports stating Liverpool are anything more than interested have arisen, so if that interest is genuine, the Merseysiders can’t really hold out much longer with United as deep in negotiations as they reportedly are.

It is a real moment of truth in the whole transfer saga. If Liverpool truly want Pepe, they have to get up off their backside and join United in talks.

Playmaker: Rookie manager, talisman gone, transfer ban… How will Chelsea cope this season?

Heading into the new Premier League season, one of the narratives that is likely to be followed with a keen eye is Frank Lampard as manager of Chelsea.

With the west London side currently under a transfer embargo for this window and the one after (per Sky Sports News), the Blues have been heavily restricted in their transfer dealings this summer.

With the departure of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid occurring this summer as well (per BBC Sport), the ban has complicated things heading into a new footballing campaign, and yet, fans are still excited about what Lampard can bring to Chelsea in this new era for the London giants.

As Joe Street and Laurenz Vescoli from Two-Footed Talk explain in the video below, Chelsea are heading into the unknown next season for the first time in the Roman Abramovich era of the club where it is uncertain what will happen over the next few months.

Despite the departure of Hazard as well as the transfer ban, things have so far been promising for Chelsea in pre-season. The Blues defeated Barcelona in Japan 2-1 and were recently on the winning end of an entertaining 5-3 win against Red Bull Salzburg, with new signing Christian Pulisic grabbing a brace against the Austrian side.

Lampard’s reign as manager of Chelsea will be one the Blues supporters hope goes well in what is likely to be an interesting first season for the former midfield icon, but after a successful pre-season and a talented pool of players to choose from, the west London side could surprise a few in 2019/20.

Chelsea fans, where will the club finish next season? Let us know!

Everton fans react as reported target Malcom joins Zenit from Barcelona

[ad_pod ]

Some Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed that Barcelona forward and reported transfer target Malcom had joined Zenit St Petersburg in a €40m (£36.5m) deal.

The Brazilian attacker was said to be on the Toffees’ radar this summer and the Merseysiders had reportedly submitted a €40m (£36.5m) bid for the former Bordeaux man, although he has decided to join the Russian Premier League side instead of moving to England.

Malcom struggled in his one and only season at Barcelona after arriving in a £36.5m deal from Bordeaux, scoring just one goal for the Spanish champions in 15 La Liga appearances – it is safe to say that he didn’t live up to expectations.

Fortunately for Barcelona, they managed to break even. However, contrastingly for Everton, the move leaves them still in need of a forward and with one less target to consider for the role.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

Let’s see how the Everton fans on Twitter reacted to the news…

The young player’s first big breakthrough came when he was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year back in 2016. The following campaign he scored 15 goals in 46 Championship games which helped Fulham secure promotion through the playoffs.

That year, he was also named the Championship Player of the Season.

Man United duo Marcus Rashford & Aaron Wan-Bissaka take to Twitter after Wolves draw

[ad_pod ]After an incredible start to the new 2019/20 Premier League season, Manchester United have just slightly slowed down and removed their foot from the gas pedal. The opening game was an extraordinary one.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Red Devils hosted and demolished their big rivals, Chelsea, in front of the roaring crowd at Old Trafford, bagging four goals in the process. But the second clash, however, ended in a thrilling draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Marcus Rashford and Aaron Wan-Bissaka seem to believe Manchester United deserved more than just a point for their efforts.

They both quickly took to Twitter to share their disappointment with the fans.

Both players talked about the result and how it doesn’t really reflect their appetite or aspirations for the season.

If these tweets are anything to go by, it seems that the Red Devils are extremely hungry for success this year and they won’t settle for anything but a victory at the end of the day.

That will most likely be something manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will love to hear from his troops.

Tottenham fans cannot wait for Heung-min Son to return to action

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur will have Heung-min Son available this weekend after the attacker missed his team’s first two Premier League matches of the 2019-20 campaign through suspension.

Indeed, the 27-year-old was unable to face either Aston Villa or Manchester City due to a red card that he picked up in the latter stages of last season.

Son will be available for Tottenham’s home game against Newcastle United on Sunday, though, and it would be fair to say that the London club’s fans are looking forward to seeing the South Korean once again.

The attacker was in outstanding form for Mauricio Pochettino’s side during the 2018-19 campaign – scoring 20 times and registering 10 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Spurs have managed to collect four points from their two league games in Son’s absence, but his return is massive at this stage of the campaign.

And it will be very interesting to see whether Pochettino throws the attacker straight back into the XI against the Magpies.

Either way, the club’s supporters cannot wait.
