Lugano leva 3º cartão sem jogar e vê perseguição, mas juiz cumpre regra

MatériaMais Notícias

Lugano deixou o Morumbi nesse domingo aborrecido.

Paul Pogba contract talks stall

Manchester United have suffered a potential setback in their plans to tie down star midfielder Paul Pogba to a new contract.

What’s the story?

The 28-year-old has been attracting the attention of a host of top European clubs for several months after refusing to put pen to paper on fresh terms at United.

Pogba has entered the final 12 months of his current deal at Old Trafford, and although the club’s hierarchy have reportedly offered him £400,000 per week to stay put, an agreement has not yet been reached.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the World Cup winner will not put pen to paper on any contract until April.

Their report stated: “The feedback United has received from Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent, is that it will not be until April that they will discuss the future of the international Bleu.

“A waiting time that benefits Real Madrid and the rest of the player’s potential suitors. It is also a maneuver to see what happens to the situation of Pogba himself in the plans of the Red Devil.”

Manchester United fans may be worried

Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain were heavily linked with a move for Pogba over the summer before their shock move for Lionel Messi meant that his arrival was no longer a financial possibility.

Since then, the 6 foot 2 maestro has been largely impressive for United, with an outstanding haul of four assists in the opening game of the season earning praise from teammate Bruno Fernandes.

The 27-year-old told MUTV after the emphatic victory over Leeds: “I’m pretty sure Paul could do five or six (assists) in one game! Paul is a quality player; we all trust him, we all know his qualities.

“The point is making those performances and to help the team do better and I’m pretty sure Paul is here to do that.”

Further assists against Southampton and Newcastle United have taken his tally up to seven for the season, while he is the squad’s third-best performer in 2021/22 as per WhoScored metrics, but the engine room operator’s red card for a horrendous challenge on Naby Keita against Liverpool last time out has somewhat tarnished his solid start.

It remains to be seen where Pogba’s long-term future lies, but many United fans may well be worried at this latest revelation coming out of Spain.

Strauss confident about England's chances

England captain Andrew Strauss has said his team will take the field this summer and go “blow for blow” against Australia

England captain Andrew Strauss has said his team will take the field this summer and go “blow for blow” against Australia. Strauss, whose first Ashes series was in 2005 when England regained the urn, chose not too delve too far back into that epic summer when chalking up the home side’s chances.”It’s unhelpful to look back too much to 2005,” said Strauss at Edgbaston. “This is going to be a very different series and it would be wrong to expect things to go in a similar manner. What I take from 2005 is how close those games were and how hard it was to finish them off. There were times we were right on top and maybe we didn’t have enough belief to do that. One of the things we have been trying to work on is to be very clinical so that when we get on top of teams we finish them off once and for all. That’s going to be important in the coming days.”Strauss said to seriously compete with Australia, England would have to be prepared to scrap. “Anybody who goes in there and just thinks ‘Oh no, we’ll just stick to our own game’ is going to come unstuck. Our players are absolutely certain that they will go out there and go blow for blow.”He was, however, wary of overdoing that competitiveness. “There’s a fine line between aggression and being over the top so we have to check that line carefully,” said Strauss. “I think we know the type of cricket we need to play to beat the Aussies, we just need to go out and play it.”Strauss was eager to point out that England will not be overly dependent on Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen. “You don’t win Ashes series unless all 11 play a big part”, he said. “If Fred bowls with aggression no player in the world is going to enjoy that. I still think there are some scars in their side. Maybe some of their batsman haven’t faced him very much before but they will have watched that series four years ago and know that when he’s good he’s very, very good.”Pietersen’s failures in the warm-up against Warwickshire at Edgbaston didn’t deter Strauss. “KP hasn’t changed his style of batting in four years. I don’t expect him to this time. KP is a man for the big occasion,” he said. “I wasn’t overly surprised he didn’t get many runs in the Warwickshire game, but come that first Test match you know that’s he’s going to be switched on and keen to make his mark on the series right from ball one. He backs himself against any bowler, he backed himself against [Shane] Warne and [Glenn] McGrath and he will do that against these bowlers. His number-one asset is his confidence”.Strauss was pleased with England’s build-up to the Ashes, even though their main competition in recent Tests has been West Indies. “I like where we’re at. I thought there were some really encouraging signs against the West Indies, there was good, controlled aggression and we were clinical,” he said. “We’re not going to know for certain until we go out there against the Australians, but the signs are good, and I like the characters we have got in the side. I don’t see any that are going to be open to exploitation and that’s vital.”While there has been plenty of understandable anticipation leading up to Glamorgan’s big day, Strauss said his players “will be walking into the unknown” when they take the field in Cardiff. “We are not entirely sure what to expect. Both teams will go there not knowing what to expect, and we can only judge when the Test match is over,” he said. “In world cricket home advantage counts for a huge amount.”

Mohamed Salah was impressive vs Brighton

After obliterating Manchester United 5-0 last weekend, Liverpool couldn’t get past Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on Saturday in a similarly ruthless fashion, ultimately stumbling to a 2-2 draw after being 2-0 up after 24 minutes thanks to goals from club captain Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane.

Despite the disappointing overall result, one player that we feel stood out at the weekend and was yet again another shining light for the Merseyside club, was Mohamed Salah, who is currently earning a weekly wage of £200k-per-week according to Spotrac.

The Egyptian, who started the match at the weekend and played through the full 90 minutes against Graham Potter’s side, managed to assist Henderson’s goal to open the scoring after a delightful cut back from the right-hand side.

Mane was the only one of Liverpool’s offensive trio to beat the goalkeeper but Salah’s offensive display was still excellent. He had one shot on target, completed 100% of the three dribbles he attempted and also completed 22 of 30 passes. Two of those happened to be two key passes while he won all three of the ground duels he was involved in, ultimately earning himself an overall match rating of 7.4/10, making him the joint-highest rated Liverpool player on the day according to SofaScore.

This shows just how much of an attacking threat he was for the Reds on the day but just couldn’t find himself a goal, something that will presumably be a big disappointment for him as an individual given how he’s managed to net in his seven consecutive Liverpool league appearances prior to the Brighton clash.

Since joining Liverpool back in the 2017 summer transfer window from AS Roma for a reported fee of £34m, the 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £90m according to Transfermarkt, has made 216 appearances for the club across all competitions in which he has managed to rack up an impressive total of 140 goals and 53 assists, comfortably cementing himself as one of Liverpool’s most important attacking players.

Even though he failed to add another goal to his incredible tally for the season against Brighton, Salah and everyone else at the club can be pleased that he still managed to put in a top-quality performance at the weekend. Hopefully, he’ll get back to scoring form either on Wednesday in their next Champions League game against Atletico Madrid or next weekend in their next Premier League outing versus West Ham United.

Celtic: Daizen Maeda expected to join

Celtic are set to bring in Yokohama F. Marinos forward Daizen Maeda in January, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Lowdown: Maeda profiled

Described as a ‘tireless worker’ by Kieran Devlin, the Japan international worked under Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos. In fact, the Hoops boss actually signed Maeda on loan in 2020, with the 24-year-old scoring 24 goals in 67 appearances for his current employers, with 21 of those coming in 33 J1 League games last season.

He still has over just two years remaining on his contract, but it seems as if a move to Celtic is now on the cards.

The Latest: Reunion with Ange expected

The Times first linked Maeda with a move to Parkhead towards the end of October, claiming that the Hoops were confident of sealing a winter move.

The Scottish Sun shared a story late on Tuesday evening, with comments from Postecoglou on links to another Japan international in Reo Hatate.

Within their report, they claimed that Maeda is expected to make the move to Scotland, with Postecoglou identifying other targets for which he wants the Hoops hierarchy to move before the transfer window opens in January.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-15/” title=”Celtic updates!!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: More firepower…

Maeda has just come off the back of his best-ever year in front of goal, so it’s an exciting time with a move seemingly edging closer.

The Hoops have struck gold by bringing in Kyogo Furuhashi, who has already scored 13 times in green and white; and like Furuhashi, Maeda can also play centrally or out wide.

A transfer in 2022 would give Postecoglou more firepower and versatility within his attacking ranks, and perhaps Maeda could prove to be a replacement for Albian Ajeti, with Celtic reportedly ready to cut their losses on the Swiss striker.

Bairstow stands alone for Yorkshire

Yorkshire will probably have to look for either the rain or their newest batting recruit Jonny Bairstow to save them from defeat

John Ward at Scarboroguh23-Jul-2009
ScorecardYorkshire will probably have to look for either the rain or their newest batting recruit Jonny Bairstow to save them from defeat against Nottinghamshire on the final day of this match, as on current evidence none of the other top-order batsmen seem capable of doing so.Bairstow, in only his fifth championship match, stood like a giant among pygmies as fine Notts bowling scythed through his team-mates, and he emerged unbeaten from the ruins with a superb unbeaten 84 off 137 balls as his team was forced to follow on, on another day of remarkably inconsistent weather.Yorkshire began the day on a depressing 25 for 2, and the morning’s play continued this trend. The only chink of light for the home side was the innings of David Wainwright, a spin-bowling all-rounder who as yet has been unable to secure a regular place in the team. Promoted from No.9 to do the job of nightwatchman, he did his best to show his batting ability. He plays straight, and quickly made a classic drive through extra cover for four in the first over of the day, bowled by Andre Adams. He soon overtook Joe Sayers, and as the pair took the total to 61 Yorkshire’s prospects looked hopeful. Then, however, Sayers pushed at a ball from Adams, who had changed ends, outside the off stump and was caught at the wicket for 17. This began a sorry middle-order slide. Wainwright, after an innings of application, was caught at second slip off the same bowler for 29, and one run later Andrew Gale fell the same way, playing a ‘nothing’ shot. Adams’ nippy medium-pace brought him three wickets for only six runs off seven overs from the Trafalgar Square end. Gerard Brophy joined the collapse by slashing a ball from Ryan Sidebottom straight to point, and at lunch Yorkshire were facing disaster at 81 for 6.After lunch for a while, Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan brought a new determined impression to the Yorkshire batting, intent on bringing about a recovery. But it took one superb ball from Sidebottom to nip their partnership in the bud, as Bresnan had no answer to a scorcher that took the edge of his bat and flew to first slip. Just after two o’clock, though, with the score 102 for 7, a heavy downpour struck the ground. In the old days, that would have been the end of play for the day. But even though most of the Scarborough ground is recognisable from photographs of the 1930s, they have recently installed new drainage, and remarkably less than two hours later the players were back on the field. Yorkshire no doubt regretted that development on this occasion. In the very first over after the break Adil Rashid had edged another fine ball from the ex-Yorkshire seamer Sidebottom, also to first slip, and Yorkshire were now down and almost out at 105 for 8.Only now did Yorkshire begin to fight back. Bairstow showed again that he has inherited the fighting spirit of his father, and in addition more patience than the famous David possessed. He waited for the right ball and hit it well, as he showed with successive cut and pulled boundaries off Adams. Matthew Hoggard also proved stubborn, and the pair added 44 before Hoggard swatted a catch into the covers. The last man Dion Kruis did even better, unfurling some unexpectedly fine strokes, especially through the covers off Franks. Helped rather than hindered by the now traditional field set to keep Bairstow away from the strike, he scored so fluently that he was to finish with 37 off 39 balls. In the meantime Bairstow reached his 50 with a superb off-driven six off Luke Fletcher, and indulged in some skilful and productive reverse sweeps, several of which ran for four. When Sidebottom returned with the second new ball, Kruis cut his first ball effortlessly for four, but later in the over edged a catch into the gully. The pair had added 82 runs to take the total to 231, and Bairstow was left stranded on 84, his career best. His career average is now 79, after five matches, and most of his runs have been scored in adversity. He is definitely a player to watch. Sidebottom, with five wickets, and Adams, with four, took the bowling honours.Yorkshire were forced to follow on, and there was time in seven overs for them to lose the wicket of Jacques Rudolph, caught at second slip in the final over aiming an irresponsible slash at a ball from Sidebottom.. Certainly Yorkshire need to demand more from this greatly talented but currently disappointing player. They will need much more discipline from their other batsmen tomorrow to save the match, if play goes the distance.
