However, a visit to the specialist revealed further cartilage problems and he had scar tissue removed on Thursday.”Simon Jones underwent keyhole surgery this morning under the care of his surgeon Andrew Williams,” a statement from his management company said. ” “Contrary to reports this was a planned procedure following diagnosis by Worcestershire medical staff during the county’s pre-season camp in South Africa.”Simon will immediately return to training with Worcestershire with a view to attaining match fitness within six weeks.”There had been optimistic talk that Jones could stake a claim for an England recall in time for the Ashes with a good start to the season, but this latest surgery is another cruel blow to his hopes as an injury-ravaged career continues.Jones last played for England during the 2005 Ashes and was able to turn out for his former county Glamorgan in only five matches in the next two seasons. He fought back with 42 wickets in nine games for Worcestershire last summer and even secured a place in England’s squad for the postponed ICC Champions Trophy but he couldn’t see out the season and needed another trip under the knife.

Manchester City fans have been reacting to the news that Pep Guardiola is set to play Raheem Sterling in a central role.

Since making the move to the Etihad Stadium, £81m-valued Sterling (Transfermarkt) has been a star for the Citizens. In 302 appearances in all competitions, he has found the back of the net 115 times, while also providing 88 assists (Transfermarkt).

He has also helped the club win three Premier League trophies amongst plenty of other pieces of silverware.

However, he has started just two league matches this terms and does not appear to be a key member of Guardiola’s plans currently.

According to Martin Blackburn, Sterling has had a heart-to-heart with Guardiola, who has now assured the 26-year-old he will be given more chances in a central role, a position he has scored 21 times from 44 games in throughout his career.

Centurión, enfim, tem um destino. O São Paulo acertou a venda de 70% dos direitos do atacante para o Genoa, da Itália, por 3,5 milhões de euros (R$ 12,85 milhões), nos mesmos moldes da negociação que o atacante desistiu na semana passada para ir ao Boca Juniors, em transação que não se confirmou por indisciplina do jogador.

O jornal italiano La Gazzetta Dello Sport informou que o Genoa pagará, no total, 5 milhões de euros (R$ 18,36 milhões) pelo jogador. O LANCE! confirmou que, desse valor, 70% fica com o Tricolor paulista, que ainda acertou que ficará com 10% do lucro de uma negociação futura do atleta de 24 anos de idade – os outros 30% de Centurión pertencem ao Racing, da Argentina. A expectativa no São Paulo é de que a transação se conclua até esta sexta-feira.

O atacante desembarcou na Itáliadurante a tarde desta quinta-feira, no horário de Brasília, ao lado de seu representante, Alejandro Mazzoni, para convencer o Genoa a retomar a negociação que o próprio Centurión pôs fim na semana passada. Havia o temor de que o Genoa reduzisse a oferta inicial, o que não agradaria o São Paulo, mas a proposta da semana passada foi mantida.

Centurión já jogou no Genoa, emprestado pelo Racing, da Argentina, entre 2013 e 2014. Mas, logicamente, o clube não gostou da postura do jogador, que fez exames na Itália na quinta passada e, na sexta, embarcou para a Argentina porque o Boca Juniors ofereceu US$ 4,2 milhões (aproximadamente R$ 13,2 milhões) e Centurión preferia a Bombonera. Em menos de 24h em Buenos Aires, ele se envolveu em confusão em balada e o Boca desistiu de comprá-lo.

De acordo com o jornal argentino Olé, o Lanús, da Argentina, queria o empréstimo de seis meses de Centurión, mas o empresário do atacante nem abriu negociação. Além disso, o São Paulo já tinha deixado claro que não aceitaria emprestar o jogador porque queria lucrar com sua venda.

Centurión chegou ao São Paulo em 2015, comprado por mais de R$ 13 milhões com a ajuda de Vinicius Pinotti, hoje diretor executivo de futebol do clube. O atacante tinha contrato com o São Paulo até 2019. Sua passagem pelo Morumbi teve 81 jogos, oito gols e nove assistências até ser emprestado ao Boca, há um ano, sem deixar saudades.
