Liverpool fans go wild for new kit video

A number of Liverpool supporters have been reacting positively to a club video promoting the Reds’ new 2021/22 Nike kit.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will be back in pre-season action later this month, following a much-needed break after a gruelling 2020/21 campaign.

Some players will need more time off after their Euro 2020 and Copa America commitments, but it will still be great to see a number of big names back in action soon.

Liverpool will begin next season in a brand-new kit – one that will hopefully be remembered as the strip they regain the Premier League title in.

Fans often get hugely excited when a new kit arrives and it appears as though this year is no different.

On Wednesday, the club’s official Twitter account confirmed that they will unveil the new outfit at 8am on Thursday morning (July 8th).

Azhar takes eight in top championship clash

The match at The Oval between Surrey and Lancashire always looked as if it had the makings of a real contest, and that is the way it is turning out

Ralph Dellor10-May-2002The match at The Oval between Surrey and Lancashire always looked as if it had the makings of a real contest, and that is the way it is turning out. In the morning session, Lancashire lost a potential match-winner early on when Stuart Law fell to Azhar Mahmood having added only 18 to his overnight score. The Pakistani was not finished there, either, for he also claimed Glen Chapple and Kyle Hogg to finish with figures of eight for 61. With Jimmy Ormond claiming John Wood lbw, it was left to skipper Warren Hegg with 42 before he was last man out to set Surrey a target of 305 to win. At lunch they were 11 without loss.It only took four balls from Andrew Caddick to finish off the Yorkshire innings at Taunton. Without any addition to the total, Yorkshire were all out for 280 leaving Somerset requiring 262 to win. They got off to a good start, with Marcus Trescothick in particular looking as if he meant business, but he lost Jamie Cox and Michael Burns before Peter Bowler accompanied him to lunch. Trescothick had 48 and Somerset needed another 160 runs to win.Paul Nixon did his best to get Kent out of a seemingly impossible situation against Hampshire. After he had lost Ed Smith for 77, Nixon saw Matthew Fleming also go to Dimitri Mascarenhas so that at lunch Kent’s lead was just 9 with four wickets remaining. Nixon is 54 not out.Warwickshire are up against it at Grace Road. Chasing a massive 523 first innings by Leicestershire, they lost 6 wickets during the course of the morning and at lunch were 152 for nine, still 371 runs behind. In Division Two, Northamptonshire’s batsmen are making a much better fist of things second time around. Following on 407 runs behind against Derbyshire, Mike Hussey and Mal Loye both completed centuries as they cut the deficit to 194 at the break. At Trent Bridge, Nottinghamshire are moving towards victory against Essex. The visitors were bowled out for 270 in their second innings despite a fighting effort from the tail. Greg Smith was the man to do the damage as the tall, left-arm pace bowler took eight for 53 in the innings to finish with 11 wickets in the match. Chasing 188 to win, Nottinghamshire lost Jason Gallian but are within 134 runs of victory.David Hemp is leading Glamorgan’s efforts to post a difficult target for Worcestershire in the fourth innings. He was 56 not out at lunch as Glamorgan moved carefully to a lead of 109 with eight wickets in hand at 121 for two.

West Ham: Fans react to Tammy Abraham transfer update

West Ham United are seemingly the front-runners to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea, as reported by Football Insider.

In 2020/21, the England international enjoyed a fruitful campaign, bagging 18 goal contributions in 32 fixtures, with 12 goals and six assists [Transfermarkt] to finish as the Blues joint-top scorer alongside Timo Werner [BBC].

Having previously been linked with Aston Villa, the Hammers now seem to be in pole position for his signature as their search for a centre-forward intensifies [Football Insider].

Despite initially being valued at £40m by Chelsea, it is believed that £35m could be enough to prise the 23-year-old away from Stamford Bridge heading into the new season [Football Insider].

In light of this update, many West Ham supporters took to Twitter to share their delight at these recent developments.

West Ham United fans react:

Replying to multiple different Hammers fan outlets, here is how some supporters summarised their thoughts on the club seemingly leading the chase for Abraham, who one fan hailed as a “great player”:

“I’d be happy with this tbh”

Credit: @westham_bubble”West Ham can sign Tammy Abraham for £30m now & not £40m as reported earlier because David Moyes told them he is only worth £25m so they have bought down the price down to £30m now go and do the deal now West Ham the player wants the move so that he plays with Declan Rice!”Credit: @MichaelAGomes19″This is a no brainer for me.”Credit: @bartong2011″So do it then. SPCL3 – Watts leading New Milton to impressive start

Steve Watts hasn’t sprouted too many grey hairs, but if New Milton put him through any more close finishes he’ll soon be reaching for the Grecian 2000

Mike Vimpany (as produced in the Southern Daily Echo)20-Jun-2002Steve Watts hasn’t sprouted too many grey hairs, but if New Milton put him through any more close finishes he’ll soon be reaching for the Grecian 2000.Watts has led youthful New Milton into a handy fourth place in Premier Division 3, 13 points behind leaders Purbrook."But it’s been a case of defending low totals in the last couple of games," he says. "We beat Gosport Borough by seven runs, and Redlynch & Hale by a 19-run margin in a low scoring game.”New Milton, whose pre-season ambition was to secure a comfortable mid-table berth, owed much to fifth-wicket pair Nick Gargaro (41) and Steve Taylor (29), who repaired the damage of 20-4 inflicted by Redlynch seamer Steve Fox (3-14).Their fight back enabled Milton to reach 113 before Watts let loose his five-man attack to bowl Redlynch out for 94, Andy Snellgrove taking 3-17."We’ve got a pretty young side here and the lads were tremendous in character once again showing their strength in the bowling department."At tea, they were confident in defending 113 and proved themselves right again," praised the captain.New Milton certainly aren’t getting carried away, but the sight of Purbrook and Alton losing their respective unbeaten records has made things interesting at the top. It’s also enhanced pre-season predictions that St Cross Symondians would come out on top – a storming eight-wicket win at Hartley Wintney taking Matt Perry-Lewis’s team to within two points of Purbrook, who lost at Bashley.Matt Digweed’s 104 led Hartley Wintney to 206-7 (Stuart Charman 3-34), but once burly Steve Shaw (85) and Ben Adams (53 not out) got into their stride, the outcome was inevitable.Bashley (Rydal) II upset the apple cart with Neil Sexton and Chris Gates influential in inflicting a first defeat of the season on leaders Purbrook. The previously undefeated leaders appeared to have batted themselves into a powerful position at 226-8 (Bob Paul 3-45) on the strength of half-centuries by South African Will Prozesky (57) and Ian Hunter (52).Bashley had reached 105-4 when Gates (53) and Sexton, with a match-winning 65, came together. The pair added a crucial 73 in quick time, with Sexton’s powerful cover-drives leading Bashley to a unexpected three-wicket win off the first ball of the final over.Alton knew they would have to improve on last week’s disappointing performance against Flamingo if they were to threaten St Cross Symondians this afternoon.Flamingo suffered their customary top-order blip, but rallied to reach 159-8 with man of the moment Adie Heath (34) leading a rearguard action prompted by Tim Richman (26), Kevin Brewster, Dave Breach and Saints footballer Jason Dodd.It looked all up over when Nick McMurray (4-33) and Stu Shapland (2-33) plunged Alton into the abyss of 57-7.A rain break gave Howard Gadsby (33) and gritty teenager Mark Heffernan (32) time to regroup and add a precious 66 before Flamingo broke through again to bowl Alton out for 127."We would have won it far easier but for the rain," predicted Flamingo skipper Shapland."We need some confidence in our top order batting, but the way we’ve battled to win four games is a testament to the team spirit in the dressing room."The win put Flamingo’s into fifth spot – the highest position they’ve ever achieved in the Hampshire pyramid – just ahead of Hursley Park, whose home match with Portsmouth II was a wet weather victim.Havant II continue to blow hot and cold, with skipper Matt Gover never quite knowing what his talented side are liable to produce."The lads did the business at Hook & Newnham, scoring 246-7 and then bowling them out for 130," he said."If Simon Greenfield (65) and JJ Owen (48) get us away to a good start, then we normally perform – and that’s what happened at Hook." Matt Ward (32) and Ollie Jones (26) chipped in as Havant built an unassailable total.Only South African youngster Lloyd Moore (41) scrapped it out as Phil Mist (4-40), Stephen Foulger (3-24) and young Stuart Ransley bowled dispirited Hook out for 130.Hambledon, who lost the 19 points they won from Redlynch & Hale on day one because Aussie Leigh Burns was ineligible, bounced back with a 20-run win over neighbours Waterlooville.Imrie Chakrabarti (47) and Rob Norris (39) led the way as the Dons piled up 198-6 and then reduced the Ville from a threatening 99-1 (Chris Baumann 48) to 178-9 (Mark le Clerq 4-43).Wyvern sportmaster Stewart Magee, captain of struggling Gosport Borough, emerged from his Island jaunt much the happier for a thumping 132-run win over Ventnor.Mike Rees (83) and teenager Craig Stares (49) paved the way for Borough’s 218-4, after which Nathan Collins (5-22) and Devonian Andy Green (4-17) shot the Islanders out for 86.But poor old Paultons just can’t seem to get it right – visiting Leckford inflicting an eight-wicket defeat, their fourth in five games.Andrew Collins (42), Mark Weaver (37) and Duncan Park (30) made their respective marks, but Paultons’ 182-8 (Chris White 4-42) was swept aside by Scotsman Mike Howard (75) and Miles Bulpitt (41) who shared an unbroken second-wicket stand.

Ganguly wary of improved England

India may have drawn first blood against England in their first NatWest encounter at Lord’s on Saturday, but captain Sourav Ganguly is in no mood for complacency as he prepares his team for tomorrow’s day-night match at Chester-le-Street.

India may have drawn first blood against England in their first NatWest encounter at Lord’s on Saturday, but captain Sourav Ganguly is in no mood for complacency as he prepares his team for tomorrow’s day-night match at Chester-le-Street.The India captain is well aware that India lost a 3-1 lead over England at the start of the year, drawing the last one-day series between the two countries.”They played pretty well then,” Ganguly said. “We were in a position where we could have won in Delhi and Bombay – but all credit to them for coming back.”India are level on points with the hosts in the current triangular tournament, although they have a game in hand over both England and Sri Lanka.”I think there is a bit more quality in this [England] side than what we saw in the World Cup,” Ganguly added. “Andrew Flintoff, for example, is turning out to be a good cricketer – something I am happy to see, having played for the same county [Lancashire] as him.”Marcus Trescothick is also a great find for England. They are becoming a good one-day unit, and Nasser is doing well as captain.”India have begun the series impressively, with back-to-back wins over England at Lord’s and then Sri Lanka at The Oval last weekend.”I was not surprised to see the way we played. But this is an early part of the tour; it is just the beginning, and there is a lot of cricket to be played,” Ganguly cautioned.”It is most important we keep up our standards. The way the tournament is going we have a good chance of reaching Lord’s, and if we do I hope we are in the right shape to do well.”India’s squad is fully fit for tomorrow’s match, the only question being whether to recall Harbhajan Singh, who made way for an extra pace bowler at The Oval.

Hutton in awe of Abraham amid West Ham links

Speaking to Football Insider, BBC Radio 5 Live pundit Alan Hutton has heaped praise on West Ham United target Tammy Abraham and believes he’d be a ‘fantastic signing’.

The Lowdown: Hammers enter pole position…

The Chelsea striker has been a target for David Moyes over these last few months, with reliable reports from as far back as April detailing West Ham’s interest (The Telegraph).

Abraham was said to be rated at around £40 million, a figure the club cannot afford according to Moyes, but Football Insider have recently shared that his price could drop to £35m, perhaps even an ‘initial’ £30m.

His potential lowering of valuation has apparently propelled West Ham to the front of the queue for Abraham’s signing, with Hutton now giving his verdict.

The Latest: Hutton raves over Abraham…

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton has detailed his approval of the possible signing, knowing exactly what he could bring to the West Ham table.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-updates/” title=”West Ham updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“I think he’d be a fantastic signing for West Ham,” the former Aston Villa man explained.

“It would especially enhance their squad a lot. I’ve worked with him, I know what he brings, I know what he gives to the team.

“Tammy Abraham’s a guy who was very in and out at Chelsea last season but still got his goals. He still helped the team.

“I think the one problem West Ham had last season is when Antonio wasn’t fit, who played? Who came in?

“You could play them as a two, you could play them up there on their own. Antonio could even play out wide.

“Overall, if they can get the fee right, I doubt it’s going to be a small one, I think it’d be a good move for Tammy.”

The Verdict: Priority target?

Homegrown, a proven goal scorer in the Premier League and a physical presence at 6 foot 2? We say go for it.

Bagging 26 goals and eight assists in 89 English top flight appearances (Transfermarkt), Abraham also still has plenty of years ahead of him at just 23.

The only caveat will be his valuation and whether Chelsea will indeed lower his reported £40m asking price, but Moyes cannot afford to spend too much time chasing the forward at this late stage of the window.

Abraham should be a priority target for West Ham and we urge the club to enter talks as soon as possible, especially given their desperate need for another striking option.
