Carlton Palmer has tipped Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle to seal a switch to West Bromwich Albion, as reported by This is Futbol.

“If you’re going to get promoted, you’ve got to get 87, 88 points, so you’re going to need goals. Gayle will get goals in that league all day long.”

Prolific in nature, Palmer is right to point out that Gayle can have a considerable impact in front of goal when supplied efficiently.

Despite playing a bit-part role in recent seasons, he has impressively registered 45 goal contributions in 113 games for the Geordies; 34 goals and 11 assists [Transfermarkt].

Perhaps most memorably, the Englishman spearheaded the Newcastle United attack admirably in 2016/17, helping his side to Sky Bet Championship promotion with 23 efforts from 32 outings [Transfermarkt].

Once labelled as ‘brilliant’ by his previous manager, Rafael Benitez, he possesses distinctive qualities that he has consistently demonstrated throughout his career [Chronicle Live].

With his contract due to expire at the end of June, there is still much uncertainty surrounding his contractual situation after several months of negotiations [The Mag].

Though it could be the correct time for Gayle to move on after five years on Tyneside, his capability to convert chances could be hard to replace for Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce. Only time will tell with regards to where his future endeavours lie.

La Liga expert Euan McTear believes that Pau Torres may struggle with a step up to Manchester City from Villarreal.

City have been linked with a potential swoop for the central defender this summer.

The Athletic has reported that Torres has been identified as a potential replacement for Aymeric Laporte in case the Spain international decides to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Torres has a buyout clause of €65m (£55.8m) in his contract, per the report, and that may well be within the reach of Pep Guardiola’s side.

McTear believes that Torres is a more reliable defender than John Stones, who has seen his spell at City somewhat characterised by mistakes in recent seasons.

However, he accepts that Stones had to make the step up from Everton to City, suddenly playing in higher-profile games throughout the season and he thinks that the Villarreal star may well struggle in a similar way.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said: “Yeah, I think so. He doesn’t make as many mistakes as Stones but then that’s the thing, before Stones went to City, he never really made mistakes either but it’s that step up.

“Well, number one when you’re playing for City you’re going to have the ball more so there’s more chance to make mistakes and maybe the pressure with Pau Torres, he’s been at maybe the sixth or seventh team in La Liga.

“He’s from the area, he’s actually from the town and so he’s one of the ones who needs a good project if he wants to leave because he absolutely loves the club. He’s come through the academy but he’s never really had that pressure of playing in a Clasico or playing in a Manchester Derby or any huge, huge game like that.

“Maybe the Europa League run was the first time he had that kind of run, so yeah, Stones makes quite a few mistakes but that only really started to happen when he was at City, we don’t know if Torres will be the same.”

Many Wolves fans have been left to buzz as a transfer update emerged on Billy Gilmour.

As per The Athletic, the Chelsea ace’s display for Scotland in their 0-0 draw with England at Wembley Stadium in the Euro 2020 group stages has caught the eye of the Midlands club, as they have now registered an interest in signing him on loan in the summer window.

However, they may face competition from Norwich City for his signature, of whom are also looking for new recruits in the centre of midfield.

Gilmour has done very well to be called up to the Scottish national team despite being just 20 years of age, and he has also made no fewer than 22 senior appearances for Chelsea over the last two consecutive seasons (Transfermarkt), competing with household names in N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Nonetheless, he would certainly add a lot of creativity in the middle of the park for new manager Bruno Lage.
