Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has revealed details of his talks with manager Dean Smith before he suffered his first major injury in his career.

The Scotland international has not featured since fracturing his ankle in the home defeat to Southampton in December, giving Smith a midfield selection headache.

The 25-year-old, who arrived in August 2018, has been a superb performer for Villa, contributing to the promotion-winning season last term. After being ruled out for three months, McGinn’s season was further disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic which saw the football season being postponed.

Having suffered what he called ‘poor performances’ prior to his injury against the Saints, the Championship play-off goalscorer also admitted that he felt his desire to impress Smith could have played a part in his injury.

“It’s definitely been the most difficult spell of my career by far,” he told Villa TV. “I’ve been very fortunate up to that point to not suffer any real, serious injury.

“I’d had a discussion with the manager, about getting back to my positive self, trying to surge the team forward. That was due to a few poor performances by myself, I was keen to make an impression – maybe that keenness caught me out. I got my studs caught in the ground and when I heard the crack, I knew.

“That was the strangest feeling, to find out it was broken and to realise I would be at least three months without a game of football was tough to deal with.”

McGinn has certainly been a big loss for Villa, who have lost six of their last 10 league games in his absence, so you’d have to wonder how much better their league position could be if he had been available.

The Scotsman is undoubtedly a brilliant talent and question marks will certainly rise over his future if Villa suffer relegation from the Premier League.

Key information about Adams Park

Adams Park was built back in 1990 and is now the home of League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers FC. The ground itself is located in a valley at the end of the Sands Industrial Estate and has that idyllic surrounding with the forest around it on three different sides.

The capacity of the stadium stands at 10,137 with a pitch size of 105 x 68m and no running track surrounding the pitch. The surface is covered with Desso GrassMaster’s hybrid grass that’s a mix of natural grass and artificial fibre.

At the moment, the highest ever attendance was recorded in 2005 for Wycombe’s clash with Chelsea when there were 10,000 in the stands.

A history of Adams Park

Before they moved to Adams Park upon its opening in 1990, Wycombe Wanderers were settled at Loakes Park but wanted to leave it since 1960. It finally happened when the area in which the old stadium was situated was earmarked for the site of development of the Wycombe Hospital so the club decided to sell the land and move away.

The initial capacity when the stadium was opened for the 1990/91 season stood at 6,000 with 1,267 seats in the Main Stand but that would change over the years. The name Adams Park was coined as a tribute to the benefactor and former captain Frank Adams who actually bought the land for the former stadium and whose sale eventually made the move possible in the first place.

Some of the first improvements to the ground were made in 1993 when the club also entered the Football League, increasing the capacity to 9,000 along with the addition of crush barriers on the terraces. The following years brought more refurbishment to the ground, including the erection of a 4,990-seater Woodlands Stand behind the Woodlands Terrace.

With many high-profile teams often visiting the ground, prompting more interest and the need of further increase on the capacity, Adams Park reached its peak with a limit of 10,000 supporters to comply with council regulations since the positioning of the ground was a problem when huge crowds of people were leaving the stadium and flooding onto the streets.

Further developments were made over the years and in 2002 as rugby union team London Wasps became tenants to Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park. The two teams would then add a third ‘roommate’ in 2016 when Reading Women joined the fray but by that time, the rugby team was already gone, having decided to move in 2014.

In July 2005, when Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea came to town and Adams Park registered it’s record attendance of 10,000, filling up the stadium completely. It was also around that time that the first plans to expand the ground were mooted so that it can comply with the Rugby Football Union regulations for Premiership grounds in the future.

There have been multiple different plans to revamp the ground over the years. In 2006, they added a new club shop and offices, in 2007, new plans were announced by Steve Hayes who wanted to build an entirely new stadium. Interestingly enough, in 2008, he would become 100% owner of the club.

Adams Park also contains two hospitality suites – the Caledonian Suite and the Woodlands Suite – and a bar called Monty’s, named after late club president Monty Seymour. The newest plans of redevelopment date back to 2011 and were announced by Hayes again but that was also mooted in the end when Wycombe District Council decided to abandon the project after losing faith in the whole idea.

Of course, the club also offers season tickets but their availability depends on the current ticket-holders and their willingness to abandon their place or renew the membership.

طلب البرتغالي كارلوس كيروش المدير الفني الجديد لمنتخب مصر تقديم موعد معسكر الفراعنة المُقبل.

وقرر الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم برئاسة أحمد مجاهد، تعيين البرتغالي كارلوس كيروش مديرًا فنيًا لمنتخب مصر خلفًا لحسام البدري، وذلك بعد رحيل الأخير عقب تعادل الفراعنة مع الجابون بهدف لمثله، في الجولة الثانية من التصفيات المؤهلة لكأس العالم 2022.

ويستعد منتخب مصر لمواجهة ليبيا في لقائي الذهاب والإياب ضمن الجولتين الثالثة والرابعة من تصفيات إفريقيا المؤهلة إلى كأس العالم خلال شهر أكتوبر القادم.

وكان من المقرر أن يدخل منتخب مصر معسكرا يوم 4 أكتوبر استعدادا لمواجهتي ليبيا، إلا أن كيروش طلب تقديم الموعد ليكون يوم 26 من سبتمبر الجاري.

وعلم “بطولات”، أن كيروش تحدث مع فينجادا (المدير الفني لاتحاد الكرة) حول أهمية تقديم موعد أنطلاق المعسكر وطلب محاولة تنظيم مباراة ودية سيلعبها قبل مواجهتي ليبيا.

ومن جانبه، بدأ فينجادا بالفعل في مناقشة طلبات كارلوس كيروش مع اللجنة الثلاثية التي تدير شئون اتحاد الكرة برئاسة أحمد مجاهد.

يذكر، أن منتخب مصر يحتل المركز الثاني في ترتيب المجموعة السادسة برصيد 4 نقاط، بعد الفوز على أنجولا والتعادل مع الجابون، وليبيا تتصدر الترتيب بـ6 نقاط بعد فوزين متتالين على الجابون وأنجولا.

Newcastle United ace Jetro Willems has posted a rather cryptic tweet on his official Twitter page as his immediate future at the Tyneside club seems uncertain.

As per his tweet, the 26-year old says that he is ‘going to see what the future holds’, as he has only been on loan in the North East from Eintracht Frankfurt and technically this has now expired, but it seems unclear as of yet as to whether his immediate future still lies at St. James’ park or back in Germany with his parent club.

Indeed, with the outbreak of the global pandemic delaying the restart of the 2019/20 season, contracts and loan deals for some players have been set to expire with the campaign still going on, and Willems falls in this category.

The left-back has perhaps been unlucky that he picked up a serious cruciate ligament rupture in the middle of January earlier on in the year, that has seen him miss seven games, according to Transfermarkt.

There has not been an official time stamp on when exactly he could return, meaning that the Magpies have almost been put in limbo with regards to possibly extending his loan deal even though he is still injured.

The Dutch international was arguably playing well before this happened as Steve Bruce played him in 20 matches in all competitions, whereby he scored two goals and made three assists (via Transfermarkt).

Only time will tell as to when Willems will fully recover from his injury set back, but the next time he steps forward onto the pitch may not be in the famous black-and-white-striped jersey.

هناك أزمة في تجديد عقد، محمد صلاح، مع ليفربول حيث أفادت صحيفة “ميرور” البريطانية في الأسبوع الماضي أن اللاعب يريد الحصول على أكبر راتب أسبوعي في إنجلترا بقيمة 500 ألف جنيه إسترليني.

بعض خبراء الكرة الإنجليزية تعترض على هذا المبلغ والبعض الآخر متقبل ويرى أن محمد صلاح يستحق الحصول على هذا العقد الكبير الذي سيبقيه لما بعد يونيو 2023 في ليفربول.

وعلق ألدريدج على أزمة محمد صلاح من جديد في مقال عبر جريدة “ليفربول إيكو” البريطانية، وقال: “كان من من الرائع تسجيل 3 أهداف أمام ليدز يونايتد في الجولة الماضية، لكن الفريق ما زال يفتقر إلى الشراسة التهديفية لأن المباراة كانت لتنتهي بفارق أكبر من الأهداف”.

وتابع: “كانت المباراة لتكون مشابهة لما فعلناه أمام كريستال بالاس في الموسم الماضي (7-0) لأن أسلوب ليدز يونايتد لن يكون قادرًا على منع لاعبي ليفربول من التسجيل ولكن لا يهم كل هذا لأننا سجلنا 3 أهداف وفزنا بالنقاط الثلاث”.

وواصل: “إذا كنا نرغب في الفوز ببطولة الدوري الإنجليزي، فنحن بحاجة إلى حفاظ المهاجمين الثلاثة على أدائهم الفني في كل مباراة”.

وأضاف: “لقد تأثرت كثيرًا بأداء محمد صلاح خلال المباراة، ويبدو وأنه لا يعطي أي فرصة لمُلاك النادي للموافقة على طلباته المادية والعقد الكبير لتجديد عقده، ويجب على ليفربول فعل كل شيء للاحتفاظ به لأنه لاعب مهم ورائع”.

واستمر: “الفرق الأخرى تشتري لاعبين آخرون مثل رونالدو، لوكاكو والكثير من النجوم، يجب على ليفربول الحفاظ على محمد صلاح، عليهم أن يتخذوا القرار الصحيح في الوقت المناسب”.

وأكمل: “يبدو أن محمد صلاح يتشبث بطلباته ويثبت نفسه جيدًا لمحاولة الوصول إليها ونأمل أن يتمكن النادي من النجاح في التجديد له ويمنحوه ما يستحقه إذا كانوا يرغبون في لقب الدوري الإنجليزي”.

وأتم: “جميع اللاعبين يعرفون بعضهم البعض في ليفربول ولذلك يجب الحفاظ عليهم، وإذا نجحوا في ذلك لا يمكنك استبعادهم من المنافسة على البطولة لأن جميع الفرق تهاب الريدز”.

Arsenal didn’t produce their best performance against Tottenham Hotspur as they lost 2-1 in the North London derby.

One pundit speaking about the game was former Gunners star Paul Merson, who has slated one player in particular. That player is Sead Kolasinac, who gifted Spurs their first goal following a misplaced pass.

Speaking via Sky Sports, Merson said: “When the manager puts on a training session and you’re doing five-yard passes to start off with, everybody is moaning: “What the hell are we doing this for? Who can’t pass the ball five yards?”

“But that is why. It’s concentration, so you can keep on doing it without even thinking about it, like you’re brushing your teeth in the morning.

“It’s just a really, really poor pass. But that’s Arsenal, they have that ability to shoot themselves in the foot. He could play that in his sleep, he didn’t even have to turn around.

“But this raises another question, and I don’t know why footballers do this. All Kolasinac has to do is dink that down the line, but if he sticks it down the line and a defender comes across and clears for a throw in, that doesn’t count as a completed pass in the stats.”

Kolasinac’s error was a very poor one to make, and his overall performance was not a good one as he picked up the lowest rating for a starting player as he received a 6.2 from SofaScore. He also lost both his ground duels and only won one of his aerial duels.

Merson’s criticism of the player is fair, and the lapse of concentration should not be happening in what is arguably one of Arsenal’s biggest games of the season if not the biggest as it is against such a big rival.

The full-back is playing in a new position as a centre-back in a back five, and it was looking to be working well as they had not lost in the last four games with him in that position, per Transfermarkt. However it looks like there are still issues and might make Mikel Arteta re-evaluate his plans in the upcoming transfer window.
