Mauricio Pochettino to commence talks over transfer policy following damaging lacklustre performances in previous windows.

It’s a tale as old as time Tottenham Hotspur not spending big in the transfer window, but it doesn’t make things any easier for fans to digest when it happens, and Mauricio Pochettino knows all too well that this must change if they want to shake the club’s disastrous reputation both on and off the field.

As per the Telegraph, the Argentine is due to hold talks with chairman Daniel Levy over his future in charge at the club, and we don’t doubt that, within these conversations, the topic of transfer expenditure will be broached.

Indeed, Pochettino, like everybody else, sees the opening of the new stadium as a symbolic beginning to a new and exciting chapter at the club – one where they are willing to spend big to bring in the most iconic names in world football, and challenge their rival ‘big six’ members, all of whom have benefited from investing heavily in the market in recent years.

“I am happy and proud to finish a chapter this season, competing the way we compete, helping the club, the fans, the players to be better,” said Pochettino (via the Telegraph). “We are not in Chigwell any more, we are not at White Hart Lane with 36,000. The magnitude of the club has grown ten times, 100 times, we are in another dimension. We cannot operate in the same way as five years ago.

“It is about Daniel Levy, it is about talking and whether I am going to be involved or not – that is the decision of the club.”

“Now it looks like a big club when you arrive here. Before you could say ‘But the stadium only holds 36,000’. But now, when you arrive here, there is no point in thinking like a small club. You must think like a big club if we want to challenge the big clubs in Europe.”

The Spurs boss has hit the nail on the head when he discusses big club and small club mentality. Too long have Tottenham sat back in the market, teetering between huge marquee signings and recruiting for the future, without any real obvious intention of short term or long-term success.

They’ve played it too safe and they’re suffering because of it. Levy needs to accept the fact that money is a pre-requisite for success; that flops will inevitably happen, but for the good of the club, he must commit and make sacrifices, otherwise they will find themselves in the same position over and over again. Premier League purgatory – no one wants that.

شبكة “أوبتا” العالمية للأرقام والإحصائيات، كشفت عن مفارقة غريبة وهي أنّ آخر مرة خسر فيها ريال مدريد وبرشلونة كلاهما في الليجا، قبل الكلاسيكو، ذلك كان في أبريل 2003.

الأغرب في الأمر أنّ ريال مدريد خسر أمام أتلتيك بلباو بنتيجة 4-2، بينما برشلونة خسر أمام ديبورتيفو لاكورونيا وبنفس النتيجة أيضًا.

وفي نفس السياق ذكرت شبكة “ميستر شيب” الإسبانية، أنّ ريال مدريد وبرشلونة لم يخسرا في نفس اليوم دون تسجيل أهداف، لأول مرة أيضًا مُنذ 20 عامًا و164 يومًا، عندما حدث ذلك في 6 مايو 2000، حين خسر برشلونة 2-0 أمام رايو فاليكانو، بينما الملكي هزم أمام ألافيس بهدف نظيف.

أعلن زين الدين زيدان المدير الفني لنادي ريال مدريد الإسباني، عن تشكيل الفريق لمواجهة شاختار الأوكراني، ضمن الجولة الأولى من دور المجموعات بدوري أبطال أوروبا.

ويعوض إيدير ميلياتو غياب الدولي الإسباني سيرجيو راموس الذي يغيب سبب الإصابة.

واستبعد زيدان، كريم بنزيما من هجوم الفريق الأساسي، ويتواجد على مقاعد البدلاء، في ظل اعتماد المدرب الفرنسي على لوكا يوفيتش الصربي.

Neil Jones of GOAL.com has delivered a huge update on several Liverpool players, ten of which could be headed for the exit door this summer.

What’s the story?

According to GOAL.com, Bournemouth want to make Nathaniel Clyne’s loan move into a permanent one, but he won’t be the only one leaving Anfield this summer.

The report claims that Jurgen Klopp will try to “trim and reshape” his squad, and that means there could also be exits for Alberto Moreno, Daniel Sturridge, Simon Mignolet, Sheyi Ojo, Marko Grujic, Taiwo Awoniyi, Harry Wilson, Rafa Camacho and Ryan Kent.

The likes of Sturridge and Mignolet have been on borrowed time throughout this campaign, but are there some mistakes in that long list of potential departures?

Harry Wilson

Getting rid of Wilson would be a truly bizarre move from Klopp; it has to be said.

The 22 year-old netted two more goals for Derby County this weekend in their draw at Brentford, taking his tally for the season to 14.

The Welsh international has a wicked left foot, can play right across the attack, is one of the best set piece takers in the country and has yet to really get a chance at Anfield.

The Reds’ ferocious front three hardly ever get a rest due to the lack of quality options behind them, so why sell a versatile attacker with 14 goals to his name?

Marko Grujic

Other than Wilson, Marko Grujic is perhaps the only other loanee who has done enough to justify at least a fighting chance of making the first team next season.

An argument could be made for Ryan Kent, but the Scottish Premier League is not the same level as the Bundesliga, where Grujic has wowed spectators in the middle of the park for Hertha Berlin.

Standing at 6 ft 3, the young Serbian international has all the physical tools to cut it in the Premier League, has scored four goals this season and averages 2.2 tackles, 0.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the German top flight, a well-rounded stat-line if there ever was one.

Like Wilson, he is young with plenty of room to improve, and has performed at a high level consistently all season. If Jordan Henderson really does want to play further forward as he claimed on Friday night, then Grujic would be an excellent deputy for Fabinho at the base of midfield.

It’s no secret that right-wing is a problem position for Manchester United and the club’s acute awareness of their own shortcomings looks certain to dictate their transfer strategy in the summer window.

What’s the word?

United have an abundance of left-sided attacking players on their ranks but a distinct shortage on the opposite flank.

A lack of quality options on the right-wing has stimulated plenty of speculation linking the club with a move for Jadon Sancho.

According to a report published by The Independent at the start of the month, United have made the England international their number one transfer target ahead of the upcoming window, with a fee of £100 million plus add-ons required to lure him away from Borussia Dortmund.

That obscene transfer fee doesn’t appear to be stifling any interest from Old Trafford despite the fact Nicolas Pepe could represent a more affordable option.

According to CIES Football Observatory, the electric winger, who has scored 20-goals in all-competitions so far this season, is valued at €52 million (£44.9 million).

At less than half the price it would take to sign Sancho it seems foolish for Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to prioritise the signing of Dortmund’s crown jewel, but Ian McGarry has revealed why Pepe isn’t an ideal option.

While speaking on The Transfer Window podcast (26:27), the former journalist, who now works as a football operations and communications consultant, had some very interesting things to say about United’s interest in Pepe and Sancho.

“Pepe is not the kind of player who is under the radar in any way, he’s been starring for Lille for a while and just this season he has been watched for the club in person by Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton.”

And McGarry later went on to add (27:10): “I think Manchester United are shooting themselves in the foot a little bit by focusing on a very overpriced bid for Jadon Sancho, seemingly on the back of his form for England as well obviously as Dortmund.

“But the fact he’s English makes him A more expensive and B apparently much more attractive.

“There is an issue with Pepe being Ivorian and playing for the Ivory Coast because of the EU regulations for the Premier League restricting the amount of non-EU players you can have in your 25-man squad.

“But with regard to Manchester United I’d have thought getting rid of one non-EU player wouldn’t have been difficult, i.e. Alexis Sanchez immediately comes to mind. So I think United will probably lose out on this one.”

Pepe is almost guaranteed to be a man in high demand this summer. That McGarry has revealed as many as four Premier League clubs have watched him in action this season is telling about how highly he is rated on the continent.

But it seems that United will have to park their interest due to his nationality, which is a massive, massive shame.

Premier League rules naturally dictate but it’s difficult to escape the feeling that United have backed themselves into a corner with Sanchez.

His presence at the club is already financially draining enough considering the size of his £350,000 per week contract, and it now seems the Red Devils could be forced to splurge £100 million on Sancho instead of targeting a more cost-effective deal for Pepe.

It seems the financial implications of Snachez’s disastrous spell at Man United continue to manifest themselves within their transfer strategy.

وقال كشري خلال تصريحات لقناة “أون تايم سبورت: “ما قاله رئيس نادي أسوان غير صحيح ولا يمت للواقع بصلة، أول شئ قال أنني اتفقت مع ناد آخر وهذا غير صحيح أنا لم أتعاقد إلى الآن وبذلك هو قال هذه التصريحات من واقع خياله”.

وتابع: “ما زال الدوري لم ينته، وأنا عقدي كان موسم ونصف، الأمر الآخر تصريحاتي التي استند عليها رئيس أسوان أنا كنت قلت أنه تواصلت معي أندية أخرى وشعبية وكبيرة ولكنني رفضت احتراما لأسوان، يعني لم أقل ذلك بعد انتهاء الموسم أنا قلت ذلك وأنا أعمل وقابلتها بالرفض”.

وتابع: “الأمر الأخر هو قال أن المشكلة مادية وأنني طلبت منه أموال، أريد دليل على أنني طلبت جنيه واحد”.

وواصل: “عندما أتيت أسوان في وقت قالوا أن هناك مشاكل في النادي وأنا لم أطلب شئ وقالوا أنني سأحصل على راتب مثل المدرب القديم وأنا لم أقل شيئا، وهم بعد ذلك من قالوا أنهم سيزودون الراتب وطلبوا مني أقول ما أريده وأنا رفضت وقلت ضعوا ما تريدون، وطلبوا مني أن أحدد مصيري وأنا طلبت مهلة وسأقوم بالرد”.

وأكمل: “الكلام الذي قاله رئيس النادي بأنني كنت أماطل في الرد وأنه راسلني عبر تطبيق واتساب وأنا لم أرد هذا كله كذب”.

وأردف: “رئيس النادي كان يتحدث معي عبر الواتساب ويطالبني بأن أكتب الراتب الذي أريده وأنا قلت له لن أكتب شئ ضعوا ما تريدون وهو صمم أنني أكتب وشعرت أن هذه مكيدة”.

واستطرد: “لم أحصل على راتبي منذ أشهر ولم أحصل على مكافآت، هو يريد أن ينشر للرأي العام لأسوان بأنني من تركت النادي وهذا لم يحدث، هل هناك نادي في العالم مدربه يفعل معه مثلما فعلت مع أسوان ويقوموا بتوجيه الشكر لي وحتى لم يكلف أحد نفسه ويتصل بي، فايلر بعدما فعل ما فعل الأهلي احتفل به قبل رحيله”.

وأتم: “هناك أمور غير طبيعية في الأمر، من ضمن ما أزعجني أيضا أنه قبل أن أجلس معهم بيومين كانوا يفاوضون لاعبا دون الرجوع لي كمدير فني، وهذا اللاعب جاء عن طريق وكيل لأسوان، وهذا الوكيل يبدو أن له تأثير كبير على مجلس إدارة أسوان.

تقدم المقاولون العرب بشكوى رسمية إلى اتحاد الكرة المصري ضد اللاعب أحمد مصطفى، الذي وقع على عقود انتقاله للفريق قبل أن يسافر بلجيكا ويعود ويوقع مع الإسماعيلي.

وأرسل المقاولون خطابًا رسميًا أكد فيه أن اللاعب أنهى كافة إجراءات الكشف الطبي والتوقيع على العقود على مدار 3 أيام بالنادي، قبل أن يطلب السفر إلى بلجيكا لإنهاء بعض الأمور الشخصية، قبل أن يفاجئ النادي بتوقيعه للنادي الإسماعيلي، رغم توقيعه للمقاولون.

وطلب المقاولون في الخطاب الحفاظ على حقه في اللاعب.

وقد حضر اللاعب للنادي لمدة ثلاثة أيام، لاتمام إجراءات الكشف الطبي، ووعد بأنه سيسافر بلجيكا ثم يحضر للنادي يوم الثلاثاء الماضي ولكنه لم يحضر حتي الأن . وقد نما إلى علمنا أن هذا اللاعب قد قام بالتوقيع لنادي الإسماعيلي بعد تعاقده معنا.

لذلك برجاء التكرم بالعلم والتنبيه باتخاذ اللازم للحفاظ على حقوق النادي.

Hugo Lloris is an excellent goalkeeper, but it would be fair to say that the Tottenham Hotspur man has had some poor games for his club this season.

The Spurs supporters have not exactly been shy in letting him know when that has been the case, but Lloris has been widely praised by the fans following Wednesday’s incredible Champions League clash with Manchester City.

The 6 foot 2 shot-stopper conceded four times at the Etihad Stadium, but came up with a couple of crucial saves which proved vital as Tottenham booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League on the away-goals rule.

Defensively, Tottenham had a lot of problems in Manchester, but they were on the right end of what was a crazy game of football.

Lloris spoke to Spurs TV after the match and that led to a number of the London club’s supporters taking to social media to hail the France international.

Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer hasn’t been coy on his desire to bring Paudie O’Connor back to Valley Parade next season after his current loan spell comes to an end.

O’Connor has been a key player under Bowyer making 16 League One appearances since joining the club in January.

Preparing for League Two

O’Connor has proven to be a solid centre-back at League One level during his half a season at Bradford so he should thrive if he drops down a division next season.

Bowyer has worked with O’Connor previously at Blackpool and has been clearly impressed as he looks to continue working with him next season.

The Bantams will be hoping for nothing less than promotion at the first time of asking after their shock relegation from the third tier, and O’Connor would be a great player to keep hold of.

A new era

Bradford like many teams have been the victims of poor ownership and this move may signal that the club are moving into a new era where the manager is the boss once again.

This signing is clearly one that Bowyer has pushed for rather than any of the club’s hierarchy, the two had worked together previously at Blackpool and it is no secret that Bowyer is a fan.

The Yorkshire club had previously been run by Edin Rahic, the German owner was too involved in day-to-day proceedings at the club going as far as picking the team himself and sanctioning signings on his own.

That era seems to be over and Bowyer seems to be the first manager since Stuart McCall to have control of his own destiny at Valley Parade without involvement from those above him.

Although O’Connor may not be the most fashionable signing in the world the interest should fill Bradford fans with hope as the manager is finally calling the shots at the club after a poor few years being run by Rahic.
