Man Utd’s midfield search after update on Casemiro contract

The Red Devils and Ruben Amorim look set to be on the hunt for a midfield refresh in the New Year, with Casemiro’s contract set to expire in 2026.

The Red Devils hold an option to extend the Brazilian’s stay by an additional year, but that may not happen, with Amorim and INEOS seemingly clashing behind the scenes in regards to Casemiro.

Amorim thinks he is still needed at Old Trafford, whereas executives are asking for a wage cut instead of triggering the extension option until 2027, something which Casemiro, the top earner at Man Utd, is unlikely to accept.

Man Utd chief makes contact for Smit

According to CaughtOffside, Man Utd have made their first move to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit.

Christopher Vivell, United’s director of recruitment, is the one who has reached out over an Old Trafford move, with the Red Devils looking to get ahead of Liverpool in the race for the £25m midfielder.

“Everyone at AZ is aware that Smit is likely to attract offers, and they’re open now to letting him go for the right price next summer.

“£25m is the figure I’m hearing, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal ends up initially being agreed in January to then go through in the summer.

“Christopher Vivell has been internally discussing Smit for some time now, and he’s also contacted the player to sound him out about a move.”

Hailed as a “supertalent” in the past by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Smit has already reached 50 senior appearances for AZ Alkmaar and is catching the eye in the Netherlands.

Former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has even compared the 19-year-old to Pedri, who is arguably the best midfielder in the world right now.

“I almost regret mentioning his name again [Pedri], but he’s a guy who plays in the same position. The way he turns away from his opponent, the way he scans the area, his two-footedness… I saw that in Pedri too. If he gets half his career, we’ll be very happy in the Netherlands.”

وذكر عن تحديات المدرب في تشكيل المباراة: “هذه وظيفتي، لا يمكن أن يبدأ إلا 11 لاعباً، أحياناً لا يكونوا سعداء ولكن عندما يشعرون بالإحباط، لا يبذلون قصارى جهدهم، إذا كان لدينا تشكيل أساسي فإني أتحدث مع من لن يلعبوا، بعض المواقف يجب إدارتها لكنها تعتمد على كل لاعب، أريد أن يفكر اللاعبون بإيجابية ويبذلون قصارى جهدهم، بذل البدلاء كل ما في وسعهم ضد أتلتيكو وهذا ما نبحث عنه”.

Rajat Patidar, batting on 42, will be the key going into the third day.Vidarbha resumed the day on 280 for 5 with Atharva Taide batting on 118. But their innings did not last long. Yash Thakur and Harsh Dubey fell in successive overs to leave them on 295 for 7.Darshan Nalkande hung around with Taide and the two added a crucial 37 to take the side to 332. Gurnoor Brar broke the stand by having Nalkande caught behind for 20. The end was swift as Saransh Jain picked the remaining two wickets in one over. He bowled Taide for 143 and, two balls later, had Aditya Thakare caught off Ruturaj Gaikwad.Abhimanyu and Aryan Juyal gave Rest of India a steady start of 52 before Nalkande trapped Juyal lbw. Yash Dhull came out with an attacking intent and hit two fours off Dubey, the second of those via an outside edge. But it was Dubey who had the last laugh when he had Dhull stumped for 11.Abhimanyu and Patidar took the side past 100. Abhimanyu brought up a half-century via an inside-edged four off Parth Rekhade before getting lbw in the same over. That triggered a mini-collapse. Gaikwad hit Thakur for back-to-back fours but was caught at deep-backward point off the following delivery. Ishan Kishan did not last long either, Rekhade having him lbw for 1.That left Rest of India at 124 for 5. Patidar and Manav Suthar, though, ensured there were no more setbacks till stumps.

واستطرد: “نعم لديه قدم يسرى رائعة، يقدم المساعدة لفريقه على فترات لكنه ليس جاهزًا بنسبة 100% وإذا لم يكن 100%، فليستريح”.

وأتم: “من المؤسف أنني كنت أحبه لكن في سن الثانية والعشرين لن يكون في برشلونة بعد الآن”.

Com a mudança do calendário do futebol em 2026, os campeonatos iniciam mais cedo e menos de dez dias depois da reapresentação o Galo já tem sua estreia pelo Mineiro. No dia 11 de janeiro enfrenta o Betim às 16h na Arena MRV.

No entanto, nas primeiras partidas do estadual, o Galo entrará com uma equipe mesclada, com atletas das categorias de base e time profissional. No ano passado apenas jogadores do sub-20 atuaram nas primeiras rodadas.

Segundo Sampaoli, a ideia para iniciar a temporada é ter três times. O primeiro como o principal que se prepare para o início do Campeonato Brasileiro, no final de janeiro. O segundo que inicie e compita no Campeonato Mineiro e o terceiro com jogadores de projeção, jovens que possam agregar ao Galo no futuro.

Além disso, o treinador explicou que em certos momentos esses times irão se misturar e competir entre si para ver quem entrará no primeiro time, o principal.

Gunners ramping up pursuit of forward amid Eze criticism

The Gunners’ lead at the top of the Premier League table was reduced to just two points on Saturday, with Aston Villa securing a 2-1 win at Villa Park, and Shaka Hislop was particularly unimpressed with Eberechi Eze’s performance.

It was recently revealed that a strong move is being made for Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, but the Frenchman is not the only target, with a report from Caught Offside revealing Arsenal have now joined the race for RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande.

The Gunners have been monitoring Diomande’s progress over the past few weeks, alongside a number of Europe’s top clubs, while Spurs are also keen, with Sky Sports reporter Sacha Tavolieri recently stating they are in “very advanced” talks with the left-winger.

A deal could be on the expensive side, however, with it being suggested RB Leipzig could look to hold out for around €80m – €100m (£70m – £88m).
