27-year-old could be tempted to join Rangers

Rangers are one of the few teams in the hunt for Sunderland’s Scottish striker Ross Stewart. Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed the status of this pursuit and where Stewart’s future lies, with GIVEMESPORT.

Who will win the race for Stewart?

Rangers are rivalled by the likes of Southampton and Stoke City in the race to snatch Ross Stewart away from playoff hopefuls Sunderland, per TEAMtalk.

Middlesbrough are another of the sides interested in securing his services and it isn't hard to see why following the expiration of Cameron Archer’s loan and Chuba Akpom’s big money move to Ajax.

A key fact in this transfer saga is that the forward’s contract with Sunderland is set to expire next summer and so whilst he may be a key figure in their side, they may be forced to sell now so as to ensure they receive a fee.

After all, Stewart doesn’t seem willing to extend his stay with the Black Cats having already rejected multiple contract offers from the club.

The 27-year-old is a Scotsman himself and so a move to one of the two major SPFL powers may be difficult to turn down.

Injuries held his progress back last year but this season before that, in League One, Stewart’s goals played a key role in Sunderland’s success and eventual promotion.

He netted 26 times and added three assists to that and maybe even more impressive than that is that he started all 46 league games as well as the 3 playoff games, amassing just short of 99% of the available minutes, as per WhoScored.

At the end of the day, the best ability is availability.

What is the opinion of Dean Jones?

Transfer expert Dean Jones has offered his opinion exclusively to GIVEMESPORT about the quality of Ross Stewart and what he offers Ranger.

“It would be a great signing. And in the player’s eyes, it could really turn his head because it’s a different challenge to the ones being proposed at other clubs in England. It’s very high-profile, it would take him to another level.

“I think he does have the potential to be better than Cyriel Dessers in this team. And we know that Rangers definitely are going to need some more goal power this season if things are going to swing in their favour.”

What else is going on at Rangers?

Rangers have already enjoyed a very busy summer window as they look to build a squad that can overcome bitter rivals Celtic.

Amongst those to have been brought to Ibrox by new ‘Gers manager Michael Beale are former England international goalkeeper Jack Butland, LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes and then three big money forwards, one of which being Nigerian Cyriel Dessers.

Dessers may have cost just over £4.2 million and yet as seen above, Jones would expect Ross Stewart to make a more profound impact.

Meanwhile, other rumours swirling up in Scotland mention Millwall centre-half Jake Cooper, Stewart’s Sunderland teammate Jack Clarke and also, Leicester City’s mountain of a defender Harry Souttar.

IPL teams could be allowed to retain three players

Although a final decision remains to be made, a BCCI official suggested that the three players could be a combination of two Indians and one overseas player, or two overseas players and one Indian

The eight IPL franchises are likely to be allowed to retain up to three players each before the player auction in the 2018 pre-season. Such a proposal was discussed by the IPL governing council in Delhi on Tuesday. The governing council will meet again next week to deliberate on the issue before making a final decision on November 14 at a workshop with all eight franchises.Although a final decision remains to be made, a BCCI official suggested that the three players could be a combination of two Indians and one overseas player, or two overseas players and one Indian. ESPNcricinfo understands that not all franchises have been keen on retaining players, but Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, the two teams that are returning to the IPL after serving a two-year suspension, were “keen” to retain a certain number of players. If the IPL allows the retention of a certain number of players, both these franchises would be able to pick their choices from the two teams that replaced them in the last two editions of the IPL: Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions.MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Ben Stokes, Steven Smith, Brendon McCullum and Faf du Plessis are some of the prominent names that featured for Supergiant and Lions in the last two years. It is understood that the IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin met with representatives of the eight franchises in the last few months to gather suggestions before a final plan is laid out at the franchise workshop next month. It is not just the number of players that should be retained that the franchises have different opinions about – they are also concerned by the purse that will be made available to them. Some of the richer franchises are keen to have a maximum purse of INR 80 crore as opposed to some franchises which are happy with INR 75 crore. The IPL governing council is likely to take a final call at its next meeting. One franchise official pointed out that the richer teams might want a bigger purse in order to spend big money to retain marquee players. The official suggested the IPL should consider a smaller purse as well as sticking to the retention policy it had used in the past. In 2014, when the retention policy was introduced for the first time by the IPL, every franchise was allowed to retain a maximum of five capped players. Back then every franchise had a salary cap of INR 60 crore, out of which a fixed amount would be deducted for every player retained. The break-up of the deduction was: Player 1 – INR 12.5 crore, Player 2 – 9.5 cr, Player 3 – 7.5 cr, Player 4 – 5.5 cr and Player 5 – 4 cr.Simultaneously the franchises could buy back additional players through the right-to-match-card option in the 2014 auction. On Tuesday, the IPL governing council discussed the right-to-match-card option, but there was no clarity on the issue. The right-to-match card essentially gives a franchise the first right of refusal to its players, allowing it to buy its player back after other franchises have completed the bidding process for him.In 2014 the number of right-to-match cards available to each franchise was dependent on the number of players already retained. A franchise retaining between three and five players had one right-to-match card, while a franchise retaining up to two players had two right-to-match cards; those not retaining any player had three cards to play.

Everton: Dyche Eyeing Move For Odegaard 2.0 In Teen "Wonderkid"

Everton have been bolstering the first-team fold this summer and may yet make another deal to improve the club's chances in the Premier League.

However, the esteemed Finch Farm academy could yet welcome a prodigious new talent this month, with Director of Football Kevin Thelwell aware of the importance of maintaining the club's underbelly.

The Toffees have lost both of their opening matches of the 2023/24 season, but with striker Che Adams reportedly closing in on a £15m move to Merseyside, perhaps bolstering the youth ranks would be a prudent move.

What's the latest on Sverre Nypan to Everton?

According to Football Insider, Everton boss Sean Dyche could soon welcome Rosenberg talent Sverre Nypan to the club, with the club sending scouts to watch the 16-year-old prodigy against Hearts last week.

Read the latest Everton transfer news HERE…

Manchester City are also monitoring the prodigy's situation, but the Everton hierarchy feel they can offer the prospect a swifter, more favourable route to first-team football.

Who is Sverre Nypan?

Still firmly in his formative years, Nypan has waltzed into Rosenberg's first-team with age-belying confidence, having made 15 appearances this season, scoring twice and earning one assist, described as a "wonderkid" by web editor Muhammet Atmar.

The teenage talent's performances have come in something of a mixed bag; as per Sofascore, the Norwegian starlet has completed 79% of his passes in Eliteserien, averaging one shot and 0.5 key passes per game in his central role.

However, he has only recorded 0.5 tackles and 0.2 interceptions and clearances per game, also succeeding in just 42% of his ground duels, highlighting the improvements needed to his physicality and hardiness, though at such a young age he is hardly expected to be anything close to the finished article.

Goal report that the dynamo is considered the 'next Martin Odegaard' by those within Manchester City, who are looking to add the latest precocious talent to their formidable academy ranks, and Everton could potentially make a future-defining move by convincing Nypan to choose Goodison Park as the place to kickstart his professional career.

Odegaard, Nypan's compatriot, completed a highly-publicised transfer to Real Madrid from homeland outfit Stromsgodset in 2015 for a reported €3m (£2m), and while he did not rise to the fore with Los Blancos, Arsenal secured his signature for an initial £30m in August 2021 after he impressed during a six-month loan stint.

Now the Gunners' club captain, the 24-year-old has forged 108 displays for the north London club, scoring 25 goals and supplying 15 assists.

He is unequivocally one of finest midfielders on the globe, hailed as "world-class" and a "real leader" for Mikel Arteta's men by journalist Declan Carr, instrumental in his side's renaissance over the past few years, now title-challengers after failing to qualify for the Champions League for six successive seasons.

An all-encompassing "wizard" of a gem – as praised by footballer Babayele Sodade – Odegaard ranks among the top 1% of positional peers for goals, the top 13% for assists, the top 9% for progressive passes and the top 12% for progressive carries per 90, as per FBref.

While circumstances somewhat differ, Nypan would be wise to choose Everton over the Citizens, earning an instant shot at rising to prominence at a club that can promise a clear pathway to the first team.

Also boasting leadership qualities like Odegaard – Nypan has captained the Norwegian U17 side – Dyche could get his hands on a bona fide prodigy, and the kitchen sink must be thrown at ensuring his future lies on Merseyside.

Frustrated Root calls for England to produce 'game of their lives'

Joe Root has called on his England team to ‘stand up and be counted’ ahead of ‘one of the biggest games of our lives’

George Dobell in Perth12-Dec-20172:47

The world’s changed for the England cricket team – Cook

Joe Root has called on his England team to “stand up and be counted” ahead of “one of the biggest games of our lives”.England go into the third Test at the WACA – a venue where they have lost their last seven Tests – needing at least a draw to keep alive their hopes of retaining the Ashes. But, after a week in which his team’s reputation has again been dragged through the mud, Root feels they need a good performance not just to claw their way back into the series, but to win back the respect of the general public.”Frustrated” is a word that crops up a lot with Root right now. He is “frustrated” that his team are 2-0 down despite having shown, in patches, that they could do better. He’s “frustrated” that he is spending his time talking about boozing rather than batting. And he is “frustrated” that a couple of players could add fuel to the flames by behaving foolishly when they knew the eyes of the media were upon them. He used the word seven times in his brief chat with members of the UK media on Tuesday. His expression screamed it.But while he accepts a couple of his players have been guilty of “a little bit of naivety” and they “have to be smarter” in the way they go about their private lives, he insists recent reports do not accurately portray the character of his team.”We, as a group, will not brag or boast about stuff we do away from the game or stuff we do to help other people because they’re good blokes, they’re good people,” Root said. “But unfortunately incidents like that let us down and lead people to believe otherwise.”The majority of things have been done right for the majority of the time by the majority of the group. And the one thing I’m really proud of and one of this group’s big strengths is we do look after each other. That’s proof that we are good blokes and good human beings. We care about each other and, though the lads may have done some stupid stuff, we are all in this together and we are only going to win if we stick together.”It’s frustrating that, in the circumstances we’re in, guys have made silly mistakes that are going to get blown out of proportion. So we have to be smarter as a group. The guys have to learn very quickly.”[The way we’re being portrayed] It’s not us as a team. A lot of the stuff that’s been spouted is giving ammunition to stuff that isn’t us. I think there has been a little bit of naivety. And that’s frustrating.”It’s annoying that a lot of the talk is about stuff off the field. I’m fed up of talking about stuff that isn’t cricket.”Ultimately the only way we can change that is by winning games of cricket. We have to make sure we perform well this week and win. We have to get people talking about the cricket. And if we win this week and go to Melbourne with the score 2-1, then the whole dynamic of the series changes and we’ve proved to ourselves that we’re right in this contest.”We still believe we can win the series but we now need to prove that to everyone else. The only way we’ll do that is by winning.”To that end, Root hopes his entire squad will be able to put off-field distractions out of their minds so they can focus on their cricket. For England’s task was tough enough even before Butt-gate and Duck-gate. In particular, Root knows England have to improve on a batting record that has seen the side reach 250 only once in their four innings in the series.”We have to score more runs as a batting group,” he said. “It’s easy to single out individuals but ultimately it’s about doing it as a collective.”Nathan Lyon has been a big threat in the first two games where it has spun. It might be slightly different here. But if it is the same, we have to know how we are going to play it and how are we going to break him down.”So it’s time to stand up and be counted. We’re going into one of the biggest games of our lives. If we can stand up in the face of adversity and put in a big performance, that’s what people want to see.”It’s about winning. That’s what’s going to really get people back on side. We have to get it right on Thursday.”That’s the opportunity that’s in front of this group: to go and win here at the WACA for the first time in a long time. And if we get that right then there is no reason we can’t be sat here 2-1 next week.”

West Ham: Journalist Shares important Jesse Lingard Update

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has shared an important update on West Ham United and a possible return for ex-midfield star Jesse Lingard.

Who have West Ham signed 2023?

The Hammers and manager David Moyes enjoyed a productive summer transfer window overall, sealing deals for Mexico international midfielder Edson Alvarez, ex-Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, defender Konstantinos Mavropanos and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus.

Declan Rice's £105 million departure to Arsenal, alongside Gianluca Scamacca's transfer to Atalanta, seemingly bolstered West Ham's transfer kitty enough for them to spend big on the aforementioned quartet.

Kudus, who excelled for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and for Ajax at club level last season, arguably stands out as their most exciting capture of the summer window.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Mohammed to West Ham United,” said the Irons manager after Kudus' arrival.

“He’s a terrific young talent, who has already shone at the very highest level for Ajax in the Champions League and made well over 150 senior appearances at the age of 23 – so it was no surprise to see so many top clubs chasing his signature this summer.

“The fact we’ve been able to attract a player of his undoubted quality to London Stadium shows the pull West Ham have now – the Board and Tim deserve huge credit for getting this one over the line.”

David-moyes-transfer-west-ham-united-deadline-day

Despite the summer window's closure on September 1, there have been rumours surrounding West Ham and their possible dip into the free agent market.

Indeed, reports suggest that they potentially have their eyes on a free agent striker; coming after they were thwarted in their deadline day attempts to sign Paris-Saint Germain forward Hugo Ekitike.

Meanwhile, former Irons star Lingard is another to be linked with a short-term contract, as the 32-cap England international has been training with West Ham in a bid to maintain his fitness.

The 30-year-old has apparently been impressing on-lookers at Rush Green, with reporter O'Rourke sharing an important update on their possible free agent offer for Lingard.

jesse-lingard-nottingham-forest-premier-league-transfers

Writing for Football Insider, he claims West Ham are still very much considering tabling a proposal for Lingard.

The former Man United attacker snubbed the chance to re-join them permanently last summer, instead choosing Nottingham Forest, but things didn't quite work out at the City Ground.

Lingard could be offered a short term West Ham deal after turning a heads at the club, though there is little else mentioned on the nature of timeline of this move.

What's been said about Jesse Lingard?

Former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking to FI last summer, claimed Lingard would be an "excellent signing" for West Ham.

“West Ham will be looking to strengthen,” Kenny said in 2022.

“They need an out-and-out striker but I think Lingard would be an excellent signing. I hope West Ham do go back in for him.

“He has an unbelievable time at West Ham. I heard rumours last week that he might be going to America.

“I hope he doesn’t, it would be a waste. I want to see him back in the Premier League. When he was playing week in week out he was unbelievable.

The player excelled in east London on a 2020/2021 loan spell from Man United, scoring nine goals and registering four assists over 16 league starts.
