Western Australia fast bowlers Simon Mackin and David Moody bowled their side to victory in a close encounter with South Australia at Gliderol Stadium, where the Redbacks fell eight runs short of their target late on the third day. Set 200 to win the low-scoring match, South Australia were dismissed for 192, the match ending when Moody bowled the No.11 David Grant for 4.Moody finished with 4 for 45 but the key man was Mackin, whose 5 for 78 in the second innings left him with match figures of 12 for 159, the best analysis by any bowler in a Sheffield Shield game since November 2012, when South Australia’s Gary Putland took 12 for 92. Even more remarkably, Mackin now has 23 wickets in two games, having taken 11 for 101 in the last Shield match before Christmas. In this game, he ran through the South Australia middle order, dismissing Callum Ferguson, Jake Lehmann and Alex Ross cheaply, and then later picking up the key wicket of Tom Cooper, who had made 55 and given the Redbacks an excellent victory chance. Cooper and Alex Carey (46) had put on 99 for the sixth wicket, but once they both departed the Warriors pounced. The day had started with Western Australia on 7 for 196 in their second innings, needing to add runs to set South Australia a challenging target. Debutant wicketkeeper Josh Inglis did a fine job in compiling 40 before he was caught behind off Kane Richardson, who collected 5 for 69 and, like his colleague Chadd Sayers, finished with nine wickets for the match.

Wade 'shocked' at India's comeback aggression

Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has expressed “shock” at the level of aggression India showed in the second Test in Bengaluru, a testy game the hosts won by 75 runs to level the series

Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has expressed “shock” at the level of aggression India showed in the second Test in Bengaluru, a testy game the hosts won by 75 runs to level the series. Wade said while it wasn’t entirely in their control, Australia will try to get ahead in the game to stave off India’s assertiveness.”Indian teams are always quite aggressive,” Wade said. “The change from the first Test to the second Test was probably the initial shock. They certainly came out a little harder on day three, but we expect them to come hard. [MS] Dhoni was a different captain to [Virat] Kohli, but that’s just personality. When you’ve got a caged lion you expect them to come out pretty hard, to get away.”Indian teams always go quite hard; if you give them a sniff they’ll run with it. Our job is to make sure they can’t get in the game so they can’t get aggressive with us, and then really take the momentum away from us. But it’s not really our issue. We’ve got to play good cricket and beat them on skill. Emotion doesn’t win Test matches.”A feisty character himself, Wade also said if Australia could gain an advantage by expressing outward aggression, he would readily use it. “I feel like I play my best cricket when I get in the contest,” he said. “If there’s a time I think it can be an advantage for us, I’ll go for it.”When your back’s against the wall you’ve got to find a way to get up and about, so I still feel like that’s a big part of my game. Getting older I probably tamed it down a little bit and I probably know when to use it a little bit more now, and when I need it myself. I probably don’t use it a 100% of the time anymore, but I’ve still got it there if I need it.”Wade said using the DRS in India was tricky while fielding, considering the number of people involved in the decision-making process. “Steven [Smith] is generally close to me, so if there’s an appeal, he’ll come to me first,” Wade said. “If we think there’s something to look at, we’ll speak to the bowler and go from there. DRS is a lot of common sense. Every country is the same: it’s the keeper, captain and bowler. If someone is convinced, they’ll come on top of that. But when you get five to eight people involved, it becomes tricky which is happening here.”

Man United Eyeing Move For "Fast" £30m Premier League Player

Manchester United appear to be keen on possibly bringing Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to Old Trafford.

Are Man United interested in signing Robert Sanchez?

The Red Devils unveiled Mason Mount as their first summer signing on Wednesday, with the midfielder penning a deal until 2028 and the option of a further year in a deal worth a total package of £60m.

Arriving from Chelsea, the England international could be the first of many through the door ahead of Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge, with a new goalkeeper now seemingly next on the agenda.

Reports have suggested that Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is a real target, with an Old Trafford contract already agreed upon between the player and United.

However, a fee still needs to be agreed with Inter and Man United have verbally proposed a new £39m offer for his services. The Serie A side want around €60m, though, which could result in United looking elsewhere, where Sanchez comes into play.

According to The Daily Mail, Man United and other Premier League clubs are circling over a potential move for Sanchez.

The Spaniard has fallen out of favour under Roberto de Zerbi, with Jason Steele number one on the south coast and Bart Verbruggen recently brought in from Anderlecht for £16.3m.

As a result, Sanchez could be on the move this summer, and United view him as a cheaper alternative to Onana as he is valued at £30m.

Robert Sanchez

Who is Robert Sanchez?

Sanchez, who shares the same agency as Luke Shaw, first moved to Brighton from Levante back in 2013 and has come through the youth ranks with the Seagulls.

The 25-year-old, now a full Spain international, spent time out on loan with the likes of Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale during the early stages of his career, turning out on 17 occasions in League Two and 26 in League One.

He broke into the first team setup during the 2020/21 season and has made a total of 90 senior appearances for Brighton, keeping 29 clean sheets, one of which came in the FA Cup semi-final with the Red Devils last season.

He is under contract until 2025 and earns £25,000-a-week with his current employers, and he came in for praise from former Brighton boss Graham Potter, who labelled him as ‘powerful’ and ‘fast’ who has ‘everything to be a top goalkeeper’.

“He is a monster in terms of his physicality. He’s not just big but he is powerful, he is fast.

“In terms of attributes as a goalkeeper, he has got everything to be a top goalkeeper.”

As per WhoScored, Sanchez averaged more passes and had a better completion rate than De Gea last season, whereas he stopped more crosses and averaged a shorter average length of goal kick than Onana, as per FBref. This shows how he could suit Ten Hag’s style of playing out from the back, and by the looks of things, a move could be one to keep an eye on.

New skipper Joe Leach inspired a Worcestershire fightback as 16 tumbled on the opening day of the Specsavers County Championship match with in-form Northamptonshire at New Road.New Northants signing, paceman Andy Carter, enjoyed an inspired debut with a deadly three wicket burst including Worcestershire top-scorer Moeen Ali, who made 50 as the home side were bowled out for 188.It was the ideal start to Northamptonshire’s bid to win the opening three Championship matches in a season for the first time in their history. But Leach, in his first home match at the helm since replacing Daryl Mitchell as captain, produced a deadly new ball spell which yielded four wickets. It was reminiscent of the form which brought him 65 Championship wickets last summer – the most by any bowler in Division Two.When bad light intervened with 25 overs remaining, Northants had been reduced to 102 for 6 with only Ben Duckett (45 not out) offering serious resistance.Former Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire player Carter was signed up after injuries to pace duo Ben Sanderson and Rory Kleinveldt. The visitors were also without skipper Alex Wakely for family reasons and Josh Cobb led the side in his absence.Moeen, playing his first Championship match for almost a year, and Daryl Mitchell dug in against the Northants seamers in adding 62 for the second wicket after the early departure of Brett D’Oliveira.Steven Crook trapped Mitchell lbw for 30 and Tom Fell departed in the same manner to Mohammad Azharullah.Moeen had greeted Carter’s introduction into the attack by planting his first delivery over midwicket for six and the England all-rounder went to his half century off 87 balls. But then Carter changed the complexion of the game when he returned after lunch for his second spell. Moeen went for a drive and was bowled and four balls later Tom Kohler-Cadmore, still to get off the mark, shouldered arms and suffered the same fate.It became three wickets in 11 balls for Carter as Ben Cox nicked a ball of extra bounce through to keeper Adam Rossington.Joe Clarke produced some flowing drives but Nathan Buck ensured Northants polished off the innings in efficient fashion. He disposed of Ed Barnard, Leach and Josh Tongue in the space of five overs while Clarke’s knock ended at 33 when he fell lbw to Crook. The wickets continued to tumble when Northants launched their reply with Leach settling into a lengthy opening spell which brought him four wickets. After Rob Newton went lbw in Leach’s first over, Duckett decided attack was the best form of defence in an over from Worcestershire overseas player John Hastings which cost 22 runs.He was aided by Max Holden in a stand of 53 but it was only a brief respite before the bowlers dominance returned.Holden drove Barnard to point before Leach took centre stage. Rob Keogh edged to second slip and Rossington rashly slashed the next delivery to point.Richard Levi survived the hat-trick ball and a spilled chance by Josh Tongue off Leach but it did not prove costly. He went lbw for 24 in Leach’s next over and his replacement Barnard disposed of Cobb in the same manner.

Wolves Close To Signing "Outstanding" Free Agent

Wolverhampton Wanderers are advancing in talks to bring full-back Matt Doherty back to Molineux, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Are Wolves signing Matt Doherty?

The Old Gold are yet to make any new signings to Julen Lopetgeui’s side ahead of his first full season in charge in the Midlands. However, Matheus Cunha and Boubacar Traore have made their loan moves permanent from Atletico Madrid and FC Metz respectively in deals worth €50m and €11m.

However, there have been plenty of departures, with Ruben Neves joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Nathan Collins has also left for Premier League rivals Brentford and Conor Coady has joined Championship side Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Joao Moutinho, Diego Costa and Adama Traore have all become free agents after their Molineux deals expired. Another player who is a free agent is former defender Doherty, and it looks as if a return to Wolves is firmly on the cards.

According to transfer expert Romano, who took to Twitter on Thursday, talks are advancing to the final stages, with an agreement between player and club now close.

“Understand talks to bring Matt Doherty back to Wolves are now advancing to the final stages, the agreement is now close. Doherty, expected to return on a free transfer.”

Ireland defender Matt Doherty.

Matt Doherty’s career…

Doherty, who actually shares the same agency as nine Molineux players, joined Wolves back in 2010 from Irish side Bohemians and spent 10 years in the Midlands.

The right-back was loaned out to Hibernian and Bury in the early stages of his career but went on to make 302 senior appearances for Wolves, scoring a respectable 28 goals and providing 41 assists. He was a regular of the side under Nuno Espirito Santo that won the Championship title back in 2017/18 and qualified for the Europa League in their first season back in the top flight.

Doherty then left Wolves for Tottenham back in 2020 in a deal worth just under £15m and went on to make 71 appearances in all competitions in north London. Hailed as “outstanding” by Sky Sports’ Declan Olley for Spurs last year, Doherty made the move to Atletico Madrid back in January. Since then, the Irishman featured on just two occasions for the La Liga side and now finds himself a free agent.

It looks as if a return to Wolves is set to go through, though, and a move could be a shrewd one on a free transfer. Those at Molineux will know all about Doherty and the quality he could bring to Lopetegui’s side, with the full-back hailed in the media during his first stint with the club back in 2019 against Burnley.

“For all the Portuguese superstars, or promising Portuguese players that they have brought in over the last 18 months or so, it’s their Irish wing-back who stood out today. Matt Doherty was sensational today.”

As per FBref over the past 12 months, Doherty ranks in the top 1% of full-backs for aerial duels won and top 2% for shots and touches in the attacking penalty area, showing how he could once again bring an attacking option for Wolves at right-back.

Arsenal Not Interested In Signing £50m "Monster"

Arsenal are not currently interested in signing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, but they could look at signing him later in the transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?

Arsenal have been very busy in the summer transfer window, having already completed moves for Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, with the latter recently putting pen to paper on a five-year contract after completing a £105m move from West Ham United.

Mikel Arteta has already strengthened his midfield considerably, but the Gunners are still running the rule over a number of other options, including Fluminense's Andre Trindade, having already made contact with the Brazil international's representatives.

Given that Thomas Partey has reportedly agreed a move to the Saudi Pro League, Arteta may be tasked with bringing in a replacement for the Ghanaian, and there has now been an update on the pursuit of Lavia.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Sheth has claimed the Southampton midfielder is not a current transfer target, but he hints that he could become an option later in the window.

The Sky Sports reporter said: "There's lots of talk about Arsenal. Now, I'm told that, as it stands, that interest is not there. Maybe they've looked at him but, as it stands, the interest is not there.

"Like I've said before, I just wonder if and when they can release some of these players that they don't want in the squad anymore and see how much money they can generate for those players and see how much wages they can get knocked off the bill, then aside of a right-sided player, is Lavia maybe somebody that they look at, particularly if the Thomas Partey situation continues?"

Is Romeo Lavia a CDM?

The 19-year-old is most commonly utilised as a defensive midfielder, as a result of his impressive defensive qualities, making the highest number of tackles, interceptions and blocked shots of any U21 player in the Premier League last season.

Not only that, the Belgian maestro is also a very assured passer of the ball, with 78.2% of the long passes he attempted up until March 22nd last season proving to be accurate, ranking him 15th in the top flight among players to attempt over 50 balls from their own half.

romeo-lavia-premier-league-transfers-man-united

That passing accuracy indicates the starlet could be a fantastic replacement for Partey, should the 30-year-old move on this summer, given that the Arsenal midfielder ranks in the 85th percentile for his pass-completion rate per 90 in the past year.

Considering Rice's recent arrival, the Gunners have no pressing need to bring in another central midfielder, but the Southampton ace could be a very good signing later in the window, despite his reported price tag of £50m.

Lauded as a "monster" by members of the media, Lavia had an excellent season in the Premier League last term, managing to shine in a very poor Southampton side, and he has proven that he is ready to make the step-up to a club like Arsenal.

Morgan plays down Stokes injury concern

Eoin Morgan clarified that Ben Stokes did not have any significant signs of injury after the allrounder bowled only two overs against South Africa in the first ODI

Morgan’s innings was the game-changer – Amla

England captain Eoin Morgan has played down injury concerns around Ben Stokes, after the allrounder left the field for a few overs due to a sore left knee and bowled only two overs in the first ODI against South Africa in Headingley.Morgan stated that Stokes did not have any significant signs of injury and said that he had opted not to bowl him once he came back on the field as a precautionary measure.”When he came back onto the field he had the green light to bowl,” Morgan said. “I felt bowling him again wasn’t worth the risk. He doesn’t even have swelling – there are no significant signs of an injury – but we can assess that over the next couple of days. He did the right thing to go out and get it checked. A knee can be quite a significant injury if it does happen.”Stokes came into the attack in the 18th over, with South Africa well placed at 97 for 1 in a chase of 340 and was in some discomfort at the end of the over. He had a chat with the team physio by the edge of the boundary between overs and left the field after his second over. He then returned in the 26th over, after South Africa had lost Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis quickly.Ultimately, England did not need Stokes’ services as a bowler, as they defended 339 with considerable ease, winning by 72 runs. Amla, who top-scored for the visitors with 73, felt his side suffered as none of the batsmen went on to make a century to anchor their steep chase. He was fulsome in his praise for Morgan and Moeen Ali, who had slammed an unbeaten 77 off 51 balls to lead England surge in the slog overs.”In any ODI, if somebody gets to a hundred, it will propel you to a good total, specially if you bat lower down the order,” Amla said. “You get guys batting at 4 and 5 coming late in the game and getting a hundred, that’s why Morgan’s innings was a game-changer. Moeen’s 70-odd also allowed England to get 20-30 runs more than what we expected.”Morgan lauded Moeen’s composure at the crease as the pair added 117 runs for the sixth wicket in 81 balls, and England went on to plunder 102 runs in their last 10 overs.”Batting at No. 7 is one of the hardest jobs going because you don’t know whether to shoot or not,” Morgan said. “He was very calm and composed in what he did, gave himself some time at the crease and was able to take the game to South Africa at the end.”Morgan’s 107 against South Africa on Wednesday was his third ODI hundred in 2017, taking his tally to 491 from nine innings with an average of 54.55. He is in the most consistent form of his England career.”I feel in good form. I felt like this against Ireland, I felt like this in India, I felt like this in the Big Bash,” he said. “I have never gone through a stage this long where I have been able to keep it up. I’m not sure what it is down to. Maybe a bit of experience.”
